Extend-A-Stay - Feeding gas in by Barbecue point

We are in Spain at the moment and are finding LPG/Autogas difficult/expensive to get due to distance that has to be travelled. I have got hold of a Cepsa gas bottle and regulator and tried to feed it into the van system by the Barbecue point after turning off my supply from the bulk autogas tank.

The gas flows up from the regulator to the point but will not flow from the point into the van system. It must have a non-return valve in it.

I am now looking at an Extend-A-Stay.

Is there any problem in connecting these into line from a UK/European gas tank? Are the pipe threads/sizes compatible?

Couldn't you just have a length of hose with the requisite threaded bits on it - ie, Cylinder on-off regulator on one end and some fitting that will screw into your M/home regulator at the other?

Hi baloothebear

It was me having a senior moment. You can feed through the barbecue point and the fitting provides a gas tight coupling to a pipe from a regulator on the cylinder. You must remember to turn off the gas tank before coupling up to the barbecue point.

I was tried after the search for the bottles, carrying them quite some distance to the car, purchasing a suitable regulator and getting the bottle filled.

I had clipped the regulator onto the bottle so it was locked on, but you then need to release the ring again and push down to get the gas to flow. It was that last stage that I hadn't done.

The Extend-A-Stay is not suitable for UK/European tanks according to Duncan from Star Spangled Spanner the imported.

I would have to get an adaptor and high pressure pipe sent out from Gas Low in the UK to fit the Spanish bottle to do it the way you suggest otherwise there would be two regulators in line.

Getting gas bottles in Spain is bad enough without trying to source gas fittings.

Thanks for you suggestion.

Maybe too late for this poster but Gaslow now do their own version of Extend-a-stay. It screw into the internal thread of the filler point and the hose can connect to a bottle,it may help some others.
The part numbers are 01-4500 Hose, 01-1674 connector (this code is for propane). costs about £30
