Expensive travel

I am just back from a most enjoyable trip in my adopted country France: Moselle, Champagne-Ardennes, Cher. Free camping everywhere on great sites.
I would also recommend the French book: Les plus beaux villages de France. A must to discover the prettiest villages in France.

I am planning a trip to Bristol in November. I wanted to book the ferry but was shocked to see the prices: LD lines (Newhaven - Dieppe ) charge £194 return. Norfolkline 138€ from Dunkerque.

Has anybody any tips how to get cheap tickets or which ferrycompany to use for the crossing?

Thanks..

Regards
Kris

Hi Kris,

Have you tried Seafrance, Calais - Dover?

We are going over there with them this summer (with the car not the motorhome though) but they were by far the most reasonable.

hi,,, just booked my motrohome (autotrail cheiftan) 8 meters long hight 2.75 on p/o ferrys £85.00 return,,, and im only away 1/9 till 29/9 4 adults 1 grand daughter 2 dogs,,, the dogs are £30.00 extra ,,,night crossings are the cheapest niggle:p ps, sea france are all ways more money

We have always found P&O to be cheapest for us. Silly O'Clock sailings are best value :)

ODD - OR DO U HAVE SOMETHING GIAGANTIC? NORFOLK NORMALLY VERY GOOD VALUE DID U PICK SOME SPECIAL TIME OR SOMETHING---- i JUST LOOKED SITE MANY OFFERS AS LITTLE AS £13 ONE WAY. u must BE FLEXIBLE TO GET6 BEST DEALS -WITH ANY FERRY.
STANDARD M'HOME UNDER 2.4

Thanks.

P&O are the cheapest.
Unfortunately I have to travel too far to Calais.
I was hoping to get a good deal from Dieppe , saving me the long journey.

dfieppe?nbl? did new Louis Dreyfus aka several part takeovers of existing ferry lines, is really only interested in freight-lousy offers m'homes, vans , trailers, etc but trying puh existing gd dealers off the water! has hidden (illegal? )subsidies

NO WAY...cheapest always the one U can take when its available- if u have any requirements at all-timne, route whatever then your requirement/conveniences always mean an upped price Like HOW BEAT NORFOLK £10.50? OK its wee hours Dover-Dunkerque or VV .........BUT that's still THE CHEAPEST.......
What YOU want-suitable time, particular route ,larger sizse, more people...whatever ....paying more than taking the very cheapest offer for a standard camper -wherever, whenever its offered..anything else is is likely to mean more money!

Last year we got to Calais for £30. plus £35 for the dog who stayed in the van for the whole crossing. Sounds like taking the p**s to me. Then there's sites that charge extra for the dog "because we have to clean up after them" Cool - I won't bother then ... and worse than that - you pay extra for the dog AND THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED IN THE SHOWERS. What a bl**dy liberty... OK. Rant over. For now.

Discount on LD Lines

If you're over 60 you can get a 20% discount on the Dieppe / Newhaven route. Only works if you book by telephone or at the port.

May Help,

Brian
