We were set to head off on holiday and had spent several days getting the van loaded with no hint of any problem. We were booked on a ferry from Cairnryan to Ireland on Monday morning (and then from Rosslare to Santander on Tuesday, but that's a different matter). We drove to Stranraer on Sunday, again without any incident.

Went out for a meal on Sunday evening and we came back to a smell of gas, noticeable in the van and strong in the gad locker. We have Gaslow.

We tried unsuccessfully to get a Gaslow engineer in Stranraer so we postponed our ferries and came home. We contacted a local company here -

I phoned on Monday afternoon, fairly late in the afternoon. The guy in the office said their engineer was actually on paternity leave but he'd call him and find out when he could come out. He phoned back ten minutes later and said he could do yesterday (i.e. the next day) at 1.00 pm. He explained the call out charges and made sure we were okay with that. Then he sent an email confirming it all.

An hour before the appointment he called to say they were stuck in traffic and would be a little late, was that all right. That's fine, I've spent days waiting for other workmen who have just not turned up. Often with good reason but a call would have freed us up to do something else. And that would make all the difference.

Then he turned up - here - and fixed the problem. He explained in detail what he had done. He charged us the call out fee and no more, and he followed up with an email detailing exactly what he had done and linked a YouTube video to show us the best way to get better performance from our system.

I am so impressed.

The holiday is off (we have missed our pet cabin) but we will do it later in the year.

Sounds like great service, will certainly keep them in mind .
Shame about your trip though

Funnily enough, I don't feel as unhappy as I thought I would. I was a wee bit stressed about things like the processionary caterpillars, and we have had a bit of a palaver getting the dog booked into a vet for the pre-return worming because it was around Easter and the vets are all closed from the Thursday through to the Monday. So maybe that's why, but I'm actually not that bothered. And that's not like me at all.
