I tow a motorbike on a trailer behind my MoHo but don't bother with European breakdown insurance for the bike on the grounds that I can always get back to the van; hitch up the trailer; and collect the bike and get it fixed in the UK.
This year the bike did break down in Spain and I collected it on the trailer but since I had a further 6 weeks in Spain SWMBO wasn't keen on no bike for 6 weeks.
So I phoned my breakdown company to see if they knew of a good bike shop in the area.
A very nice lady explained that the insurance was for me and not the MoHo and I had full cover! She arranged for a truck to pick the bike up. Then she asked if I wanted them to pay for a Hotel, "No thanks, I've got a MotorHome" then asked did I want them to pay for a hire car? Same response.
She said she wasn't working the next day but her colleague would phone me the next day to update me.
Sure enough he phoned and again offered the Hotel and Car. This time I decided that a nice car would be handy so I accepted it. He called back to say he had found a car but it was 100km away, what time did I want the taxi (they paid) to collect us. The following day I got a text from the motorcycle repairers to say the bike was fixed and the bill was 80 Euro for labour and 10 Euro for parts. I contacted the insurers and arranged another taxi for the following day to take me from the car hire company to the bike repair shop. Oh, they would pay the labour costs.
The bike performed perfectly for the rest of the holiday
In case you are wondering ... the cover is an option on my RAC UK breakdown policy.
