Just wondering who might have come across any good options for Eu breakdown cover. I’ve been using RAC up until now but my renewal has come in and I think they are ramping it up a bit too much. The van is over 3.5t so that I accept poses extra costs. I insure through NFU and whilst their insurance rates are good (without opening that can of worms) they don’t offer any breakdown cover. I’m not sure if I should look to change insurance provider next year to someone that can combine both or just suck it up? Anyone’s experiences or suggestions gratefully received.

This year RAC are bumping up renewal prices by ridicules amounts, ring them up and you may well find you can get it cheaper than last year.

This is a cut and paste of a post I made within the last 2 days. The other thread title is European breakdown cover, so a bit of duplication happening.

Anyway, I am with the RAC as explained in the other thread, but here is how my renewal panned out.

Update.

My renewal came in, the current price is £371 next year £534

Bear in mind this is for home start, recovery U.K. & ireland (living in N.I we get all island service) onward travel, and full European cover via C&CC Arrival, so no weight, age, or dimension restrictions.
More importantly this cover is for 4 family members in any vehicle (even as a passenger) anywhere in Europe.

We have been members for many years, so premium service given.

After speaking to a really helpful Mancunian he offered me a renewal of £332 which I have accepted. Divided by 4 it comes in at around £80 per head for each family member. Not that anyone will reimburse me!

So as expected a 10 minute call saves lots of money and beats the AA and Britannia. Wether they cover over 3.5 tons I don’t know, but the cover and service suit me. As with most things individual needs will inform outcomes.

Worth ringing and negotiating before you decide to leave. Bear in mind they are offering 33% off new membership at present and promise to beat AA and some others. I always find that they can be beaten down. I was shocked that I renewed at a lower price than last year.

Safeguard include European breakdown cover for vans over 3.5T (ours) in their comprehensive insurance quotes. When compared to stand alone breakdown cover quotes it makes their total cover insurance very competitive. We do have full no claims.

Just taken out EU Breakdown cover with the RAC for our Transporter (so under 3.5 ton). They have a sale on so the annual cover cost £105. I was searching for 90 day cover but that isn't in the sale and would have cost £175!
