Euro Roaming Fees

Tesco Mobile have sent me a text message that they will continue to offer unlimited Euro Roaming in 2025 and not cap it at 25gb like most companies. They’ll review it again in 2026.

I’ve checked online and they still offer ‘unlimited’ everything at £25pm (I’m paying £20 on a Club Card deal) and 100gb @ £17.50.

On there fair usage policy it appears to limit HFH to two months in any four, I fell foul of similar t&c on my 1p mobile service.

Once again my business acumen is highlighted !

Back in the last century O2 offered a tariff called Pay Up Front For Life. (PUFFL)
You gave them £100 and they gave you a brand new phone and 50 minutes of calls to landlines & O2 mobiles each month forever.
It also included free handset upgrades for life.
It was offered for a month and then withdrawn when somebody realised the implications.
I bought 4, one for each of the family.

Over the years O2 have tried to buy the contract back but we have always refused.
Over the years they have transferred us to their entry level tariff for administrative ease.
Which means that our free monthly bundle has gradually increased.
We now get unlimited calls to any mobile or landline; unlimited texts ; a couple of GB of data, The monthly charge remains £0.
In 25+ years I have spend under £20 for my mobile.

We also get roaming in EU included in the free bundle.

With all providers you need to check their 'fair use' policy. With many (all?) there are limits on amount of data, also maximum duration, and pattern of use. For light users and short stays most will be fine, but for heavier use and 90 day'ers they can cost more.

Most likely the tariff involved pre-dates "fair use policies" since the maximum allowance was only 50 minutes per month and then only to O2 mobiles and UK landlines. However, O2 have upped the allowance for their own administrative convenience and (AFAICT) @r4dent hasn't agreed to any adverse conditions. TBH, this is a faux-pas on the part of O2 probably up there with American Airlines' offer of unlimited first class flights for $250k back in the 1980s. AA only sold a few of those bundles, but those who bought them really kicked the backside out of the offer -- costing AA millions each year for some customers. Just like O2 trying to buy back @r4dent 's contract, AA tried their best to end those contracts -- using some excuses that might be considered somewhat sketchy to cancel at least two! Link below makes interesting reading...

In the meantime, I've taken up a PAYG SIM-only deal with Tesco Mobile, just to get a 4G service on the O2 network (my main contract is with Three, but there are a couple of locations I regularly spend time that are black holes for all networks except O2). A side benefit is that I get 'fair use' in EU. The cost is more than @SimonM 's deal as I 'only' get 50GB for £20 with a "Rocket Pack" -- but then I only need to buy one month's service in six to keep the SIM active and can always order a new SIM if I don't make enough use. The blurb that came with my SIM says "Home from Home" (e.g. EU) will be maintained until at least 2026...

Quite a deal . For you not the company

Im thinking of getting one of these for next year if we do a six month Euro trip.

It was recommended on another forum.

Its a Spanish company I believe but their Only Data 400gb sim gives you 400gb a month in Spain (I wont be going to Spain) but 200gb a month for as long as you like in the rest of the EU. Reports are its excellent and has good partners for signal. No limits on how long you can use it for and I think its 3 Euros a month to park it if you are not using it.

€43.90 a month at the moment. Not sure what that is in quids.

Our Sim only contracts with EE ended around 4-5 years ago but I haven't cancelled them as they have no EU roaming charges.

We get unlimited calls and texts plus 6Gig of data a month which is more than enough when at home. I can data gift up to 50Gig to each of our mobiles from our home 4G device each month, which more than covers us when abroad.. The mobile phone contracts cost us less than a tenner a month each and I buy second hand phones off Ebay when we want to upgrade every few years or so.

Our old EE contracts are great in the UK, unlimited everything on 2 phones £17.00 / month. But is restricted to 25g each phone in the EU

In the Motorhome I have a Scancom prepaid unlimited data sim which uses the 3 network and works out at £6/month.

The two work together well, at Donington Park recently EE 5g struggled to get 10mbps, but 3 was hitting over 260mbps.

Go to Brands Hatch and it’s the other way around.

I’ve recently started using IQ mobile go sim for the EU 100g for £20, but we are very heavy data users, and I upload and download high res artwork etc a lot.

And, if you don’t tell them you’re dead you can pass it on to a friend, (I’ve always liked you more than the others on here) (y) 😀

May change from popit to this company

The IQ one has good reviews from motorhomers but I also thought 100gb might not be enough and I think its a three month limit. It can be done via E Sim though I think so effectively for a six month trip you could just order another one as an E sim after three months but 100gb a month for us would mean cutting back a bit. How did we survive without the internet? :ROFLMAO:

Anyone tried the ID mobile? It uses the three network which I always used before. Seems to work fine through France/Spain. Signed up to the 30gb/month for £7. Took it off Martin Lewis. Can pause for free at any time too. The sim worked straight out of the box and into the router. Unused data rolls over.

I've just bought a sim only deal with Tesco. 60Gb for £13 a month with clubcard. Valid for term of sim contract (2 years). And just been notified that EU roaming will be continued until 2026. Fab! 😅

i have an i d mobile sim an offshoot of curry’s had it for a couple of years first year the 30gb worked brill always rolled over and ended up rolling 30 of the previous months 60 over !, then all of a sudden the data vanished they said i’d used 20+ gb a day ??? wouldn’t tell me what on but gave me 100gb for same price then after a rollover in portugal lost roaming an hour on chat got me “ we’ll have to send a new sim no can’t send it to portugal only to address on bill , 2 months later when i got home no sim eventually got sorted i now get 175 gb for a tenner that rolls over but still only 30gb roaming , the live chat on i d is useless but once you get past that & speak to an agent they do try & genuinely help,
