eratic control message: engine diabled

Hi all, just took the father-in-laws 2007 kon-tiki out for a run over the weekend. Used a small generator for a few hours. On way home, a high pitched chirping could be heard. I assumed this was the smoke alarm battery warning. next thing, the control display gave a "disabled" message, and even with mains plugged in, there was no power. Luckily ive a Lithuanian electronics friend whom came up and sorted it out. He disconnected the control panel, waited for 30s, then reconnected it. Hey presto! Would love to know why this happened though! Only thing i suspect is that the leisure battery will not hold its charge anymore, (as my father-in-law INSISTS on keeping the mains plugged in, 24-7-365. I don,t think this is good for any battery, but i'm only a physics teacher!!!). Any ideas to why the control panel shut me down?

I think if you've the correct charger it's ok to have it on a the battery all the time! But not a normal charger as this will 'cook' the battery. However advice should be taken from other sources!

Possibly the generator output was a bit 'dirty' and upset the control panel microprocessor. Unplugging for 30 seconds is a pretty standard way of resetting these things.

A similar thing happened to my control panel a while back.
After driving for a short while, I stopped and heard a chirping coming from the control panel, it had the message something like ' engine running control panel disabled'.
Usually once I switch off the engine the control panel allows me access to all habitation electrics. this time it didn't, nothing worked.
I was getting ready to set up for the night, and desperately sought a fuse to reset the panel. It eventually cleared itself (no fuse found) and once I got back home the same thing happened !
I got advice off this forum and had to disconnect the panel for a while. After I had reconnected the unit everything was fine and, cross fingers, it will stay that way.
I was told that it was purely a computer glitch.
A least I know what to do next time.

L M S O. P M L. I read this and said to my daughter "whats an erotic Control" She said "Dad, Try using your reading glasses". still chuckeling about it. LOL:D

Some control panels just get their knickers in a twist, turning them off or disconnecting resets the software back to default, same with some modern TV's
