Environmental Badge for Germany

We intend travelling to Germany in September for about 6 weeks and concerned about the umwelt-plakette badge required for entering many of the cities. Our intentions are to stay on camp-sites or stellplatze (or wild camp outside cities) and wonder if we can get away with not requiring a badge. The web sites do not state which vehicles require them - we have a 125cc scooter and will use that to get into the cities. Any information would be very welcome.
