Hi folks ,we are currently on route for Norway, slowly, we started off at the P n R at Canterbury, £2-50 for 24 hrs, water and toilet dump and free bus to Canterbury, great facility, we then got our ferry at Dover to Calais, and stayed 3 nights at Gravelines Aire, very busy there as it was Easter week, then on to Bergues ,an aire that I saw posted on this forum, walled town, great to wander, then on to Hondschoote to service the van, water toilet etc, then on to Zeebrugge, two Aires here, we stayed on the beach one, very good,no facilities though, then on to Kalmthout, BELGIUM a great stopover in a Country Park [ Belgium] I was told of this one by a Belgian I chatted to at Gravelines,Walk for miles through the park if you are so inclined. From there we drove to Alblasserdam in Holland, a super new Aire on a Marina, water and dump 50 c each, a great town to wander, we got the water bus from here to Rotterdam,640cents return, a super fast boat too, we wandered Rotterdam for a few hours and got the water bus back, [ bus every half hour ].We then went on to VIANEN, the aire was closed due to the fun fair being in situ so we were able to stay canal side a few hundred yards further along, water on the board walk free, another great town to wander, we are now on the Aire at NAARDEN, HOLLAND free, and I have been able to get an line as there is WI FI here free, I don't know where it is coming from only that it is here, NAARDEN is a super fortified town surrounded by moats, the weather has been great so far, very warm and sunny, we are slowly heading for Hamburg and then in to Denmark, you probably think our route a bit haphazard but that is how we like to go as we think the journey is the destination, so have fun enjoy the wedding today if that is your buzz, regards to all Malc.PS we think Holland is very cheap, food cheaper than England and Diesel we paid 135 cents a litre.:fun::fun:

Hi Vindiboy, have a great trip to Norway. I have read you are going via Hamburg to the Danish border. There is a great overnight spot on the Autobahn A7 just past Hamburg. Turn off at Kaltenkirchen (the one after Henstedt Ulzburg/Kaltenkirchen) Directions: up the slip road for Kaltenkirchen is a set of traffic lights. Turn left, drive to the next set of traffic lights and turn right, go under a bridge and follow the road till you see the Camp site on your left where there are other parking for cars. You will see the sign of a Camper on the main road, turn left in there. It is free. Waste bins are all over the place. If you need to empty and refill water, when you come out of the camp site take first left and down this road is a proper area for Campers, which include drinking water. Cost €2 for everything. You will need a chip for this, obtainable from a cross the road from the Swimming pool building. On your way back to the Highway, back to the traffic lights on the main road are two gas stations, one each side of the road for filling up. The one on your left side has a tap if you want to fill up with water. I always use the left side. At this point you are roughly 115Kms=69 miles, from the German/Danish border (Flensburg border crossing) Hope this helps. Had to post twice as there were two posts with your posts.

Have either of you guys got anymore tips as we're currently on a similar route :)

We are setting off tomorrow on this route!! Obviously not the exact same route but we are heading through Denmark, up to Stockholm, across to Oslo, Bergen up to the Arctic Circle, back down through Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland!!

We leave to do almost this exact same route at the beginning of July!!

How long are you allowing for the whole trip back to the channel?

Hi all, well we have just had a Month in Norway and it has been all I expected and more easy to get around and lots of free places to overnight, the scenery is spectacular ,something new round every corner, some of the Mountain roads are out of this world, steep hairpin bends stunning Gorges as you look down ,deep snow absouloutley amazing. I will write more later as I am currently in Sweden on an Aire at a Motorhome dealers and Motorway Services that has free Wi Fi ORKELLJUNGA the place is called, super place to overnight, free, pay for water and electricity if you want it. Huge dealership, lots of vans to peruse and a great accessory shop,In Norway we walked on a Glacier, rode the FLAM Railway, had a cruise in the Fjords, went to the Artic Circle, saw the Worlds fiercest Malestrom at Saltstraunem ,saw Elk and Reindeer close up and also lots of Cranes,[ birds ] we crossed into Norway after a place called KROCKOM in Sweden using a back road really and saw no Customs at all and we were not really aware we had crossed into Norway for a while, crossing back into Sweden again we saw no Customs at all so all the concerns about what can or can not be taken into Norway was irrelevant really. Norway is expensive but as we have not paid for any Camping except for two nights at Geiranger we feel it has worked out reasonably cheap for the time we have been here.So we have another 48 nights to use up before our Ferry at Calais so we intend to tour more of Sweden and Denmark etc, The weather has been very good to us we had rain but not enough to cause any problems and right now the temperature has been 80 d F for the past few days so no complaints.:dance:

Hi Polly!

We are hoping it will take us 5 to 6 months as we need to be back by the start of November to prepare for a job in the Alps for the winter! How long are you taking for this journey?

Anjie

Three months is what we thought - I didn't want to get caught in winter weather, not least because we don't have the spare money to put winter tyres on. If, when we get there, this doesn't look feasible, then we will cut the trip short and come back down through Sweden rather than Finland.

This is still our first year with our first MH and now we know what works for us and what doesn't, we are hoping to change it for something more suitable...and then we might get a bit more adventurous

Hey everyone.

You're in the exact same position as us... We're currently writing this from a McDonalds in Amsterdam though so a month ahead of you.

This is our first trip in our first camper and are heading to Tromso via; Holland, Belgium, Germany and Denmark before heading back down through Sweden.

Enjoyed Holland but no free camping that we've found, have been told at a few places its not allowed so been on campsites :(

Hoping Germany will have a few free spots around Hamburg on route to Denmark!

If you've not left yet (pollik) but want the internet on your travels, the deals in Holland and Belgium for data have been much dearer than England, so might be better to get it at home.

Be good to hear from the others who have troden the same route were heading :)
