Hi

Has anybody stayed in the CR above Elterwater, or the CRs at Grasmere, or Tilberthwaite, or anywhere else in the close vicinity that they would recommend or have experience of? Looking for a quiet spot, good for walking from, not a lay-by next to a busy road.

We regularly use the Elterwater car park, The Britannia Inn is dog friendly, good uphill walks or a leisurely stroll down the river on good footpaths to Skelwith Bridge.

We have used the Grasmere carpark as well, a bit isolated, no pub nearby but good for walks around Grassmere and Rydal water.

Thanks. Is your van less than 6’ 6” wide, or do you just ignore the width restriction? After all the carpark looks fairly close to the start of the road.

Didn't notice any width restriction and we've used both on several occasions, there is no barriers on these car parks and i have just had to check the tech data and we are 7'8" with the mirrors folded in.

We heading to the Lakes on Thursday and are going to Wasdale head for our first night, with another dog friendly pub.

Feedback on POIs
The road leading to the carpark at Elterwater has acquired a 6’6” width restriction sign, in theory contravention could attract a PCN...even though the carpark is only a few hundred yards along the road.
The carpark at Tilburthwaite now has the pictured Lake District National Park overnight occupation prohibition sign added beneath the original sign. According to their website this prohibition is backed up by bylaws. Whether on a quiet Monday night in February anybody is going to turn up in the middle of the night to check, and whether the constabulary could care less is another matter.

They don’t make you feel welcome!

We have walked up the lane behind the Elterwater CR and it is understandable why it is limited to 6'6" but I have seen bin wagons come down it.

National Park bylaws prohibit overnight occupancy of vehicles. So the sign has authority.

In my experience, having frequently stopped overnight in The Lakes, the attitude is quite relaxed. I will remove this spot from the POIs.

Regarding the road width restriction it is not a physical limit in this instance but intended to limit access by oversize vehicles. I will add a note to the POI regarding access restrictions.

More feedback, more grief

Hi
The narrow roads leading up to the two POIs just north of Grasmere have also been adorned with shiny new 6’6” width restrictions. Not many wilding places left in the Central Lakes, especially for coachbuilts and A Class.

Not surprised Sir !

Lake District is great but only in a car or maybe PVC
Also Cornwall and Devon and Norfolk....... Likewise Too many narrow roads tight bends and walls/rocks ready to ambush you...
Sad but true
Brilliant places but not in a MoHo

Scotland Ok because less traffic and a bit more open !
