Hiya Folks.
Just upgraded to a Burstner T615 2004 model. Very nice and pleased with it too. We purchased the van on Thursday in Norfolk. All was well with the internal 12v at the time and we drove it back to Birmingham.
The next morning the 12v didn't work and the Leisure battery was flat. I then drove the van to the storage compound (25 minute drive) and removed the Leisure battery. It was boiling hot and emitting a "bubbling / gas noises"
Investigating the transformer (Elektroblock EBL99 18A model) I discovered that the battery selector switch was set to GEL and not Lead Acid (The defective battery was an 85amp lead acid battery)
The Leisure battery is "cooked" so I am getting a new one = Yuasa L36-EFB .. anyway that's not the reason for the post
I discovered that there is also fitted an additional Sargent PX-300 battery charger feeding the leisure battery. Its 240v AC supply is hard wired into the incoming EHU and its 12v DC outputs are connected directly to the house battery
My question(s) are below..
1. Is this OK? and more importantly SAFE!
Surely the EBL99 is capable of charging and maintaining the house battery when on EHU? why need another unit?
2. Will the separate Sargent charger "interfere" or "upset" or ruin the EBL99 unit while connected in tandem on EHU?
I appreciate that most of you guys don't do EHU because you are wild campers.. we used to be.. but in later years the missis likes the shower blocks and toilet facilities found on the various campsites etc..
looking forward to comments.. regards Tim
