Hi all ,i have a 1991 citroen c15 romahome 12v and mains work ok but when i try and run the fridge on gas the egnition switch does not light up and does not click ,also i cannot smell gas coming out of the fridge , i have checked the fuse under the bonnet and thats fine (same fuse as hazard light).
All other gas items work ,cooker, heater no problem its just the fridge ,any ideas ,cheers shawbags (chris).

The only DIY fix for something like this is to get access to the electrical connection block and then one by one reseat the connectors which can get a layer of crud (that's a technical term) and insulate the circuit. Usual disclaimer - disconnect the 240V before fiddling.

I'm sorry but from then on its really a case of getting the troubleshooting manual and working through the "Does not work on gas section" - some of which will require that you have the fridge on a bench and a gas bottle to supply the fridge for testing. http://gasrefrigeration.net/ has manuals.

hi there its some time since i had a van aqnd replied on here for that matter, but have you checked if there is separate isolator tap/valve for the fridge .,my old bedford had a separate valve for most of the gas units ie heating, hob and fridge there usually in a cupboard hope this helps or at least eliminates one possibility good luck

it quite a while since i had probs with my fridge and that was not working on gas ,this was in my bedford a few years ago .i removed the fridge amd took the flue cover off and found quite a bit of crud /debris in the flue and round the burner .this was preventing the pezio ignighter from working and was restricting the gas flow to the burner jets which also rendered the gas safety cut off not to opperate .once cleaned all was fine

fridge

Hi,the fridge on gas has never worked since i bought it last year so when i tried it this year i found the problem , the gas ignition switch does not light up so i presume its an electrical fault , i have checked all the fuses and they seem ok including the fuse that runs the hazard lights and fridge ignition together , the fridge works on mains well and seems to work on 12v , i am going to check to see if there is any power getting to the auto ignition switch today , if the auto ignition switch does not work does it shut the gas off ? because when i hold the gas regulator in (gas nob on the outside of the fridge marked 1 2 3 ) there is no gas smell at all ,all the taps for the gas under the sink are turned on , oh what fun :mad1: lol.

fridge

Hi again,i have just checked to see if there was any power getting to the switch and there is none ,all fuses checked and all other elecrtical items seem to work ok.
The wireing at the control unit in the living area has been messed with so i sorted out bad connection ect and all looks ok ,i am baffled to say the least i cannot fully trace the wiring back to the box as it is mostley burried , i think i am going to bite the bullet and have it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing, thanks for all the ideas chaps, cheers Shawbags (chris).

you mentioned gas smell,it's only a very small jet on the fridge burner and as gas is heavier than air and there is a gas drop out hole near by,i wouldn't consider lack of gas smell a symptom. I would get a battery or charger and wire direct to the fridge terminals then try the ignition.

This is common.

I had a problem last year which turned out to be due to a small piece of rust dropping from the chimney onto the gas jet. Actually getting to the burner was initially a nightmare until I worked out that the rear light cluster had to be removed to get access, but once it was removed the job was relatively simple.
Cheers, John

Remove the lower vent cover, find the jet and try to light the flame using a gas lighter ( like the one for BBQ or cooker) if it lights and remains lit, then it's one problem solved. Only the electric feed to sort or renew then. If it doesn't light go back to plan B and get an expert to look at it.

probaly dirt in it mine lite one night on fixit meet then it wouldnt light so apache 208d took it out and cleaned the burner and resealed the joints with calor red supplied by dave and mary with many thanks to them both and it going like a good one

got my fridge working again on gas by replacing the whole burner unit. I cleaned out the old one and a lot of RUST came out but it didn't resolve the problem. The flame just wasn't big enough to keep the thermocouple hot. I had already replaced the thermocouple, thanks £28 down the drain.
As soon as I lit up the new burner I could HEAR the difference. The new one is hissing a lot more which indicates the old one must be clogged up the tiny holes in the burner itself are rusted or whatever.

pm apache 208d he is your neck of the wood he did my fridge on the fix it meet it might just want cleaning he willbe able to talk yoou through it
