hi there, just a quick question about electric showers.

is it possible?
i found this one Hoters.net - Product Info
would it work on campsite mains?
how fast would it drain 2 90Ah batteries?

if this one isnt right, whats my other options with electric showers, only asking cos i don`t have space or money for gas water heaters.
thanks for any help.

You would obviously have to go for the 240v rather than the 110v version and would need a very large inverter, I would say that this would be a massive drain on your batteries and would not consider it unless you are on EHU most of the time.

Even on EHU you would probably trip out the electrics on startup!

The one you showed is 110 volt AND 4 Kilowatt which makes it unsuitable wherever you are.

My advice would be to get a gas heater for your washing needs. That way, you would not need campsites and it would quickly pay for itself.

You can buy an instantaneous gas fired hot water boiler for little money. It may be possible to link it to a shower and pump. You need to speak to vwalan, he knows a lot about them.

OR, get yourself a large bowl. Boil a kettle of water on gas cooker. Mix cold and hot water in bowl. Bobs your uncle. That is what I do.☺☺☺

4 kw is out of the question,i don't have a water heater i have a kettle,i know just how much cold water to mix with a kettle full of hot to have enough water of the right temperature for a shower, mixed in a 10 litre container.i have a 12v drop in pump connected to a shower hose and head, with a switch for the pump just above the shower head.i've used this method for years and find it the perfect setup for wildcamping,as no water is wasted

If you are not happy to pay the price of a pump and gas heater, I think you would have heart failure when you found out the price of a very large inverter 4kw, I would say that this would be a massive drain on your batteries and your pocket.

I agree totally and as a backup we have a watering can with a fairly fine rose. Works a treat in the awning and its great for fetching water when on an Aire.

thanks for all your replies, i think i`ll re-think this one then.
so, instantaneous or storage heaters, which is best???

instantaneousvare wall mounted and need a 3-4 inch flue to the outside, good if you have room as you only heat water when you need it.storage fit under seats and flue through the wall being balanced flue, but heat water and store it for when you want it,and if you don't want it,then you just wasted some gas

good point.
i think, for the moment anyway, i`ll go for a 12v submersable pump, water container and a kettle
basic, but a lot less complicated. unless i find a cheap water heater : )

I'd go for kettle, bowl, and strip wash.

Even if you have a hot water shower fitted successfully and can power it, they generate a lot of steam and humidity. Not the best things for interiors of vans if used frequently. I do the kettle thing and have a cold shower facility which is fine for summer.
