Now a lot of the vans have electric heaters, and the sites charge a few pounds for hookup. With the weather being so bad ,does any one no how much it would cost on economy seven ,say to run 1 kw fire for 8 hours.just wondered as going to leave mine on next few nights ,as it is down to minus 10,and supposed to be getting worse.

I will let you do the maths, but it cost me £2.00 to run a 600 w heater for 12 hours and run my lamps .

So on the basis you are running 400 w more, but for 4 hours less...I reckon £2 a day should do it

Wiv my cse grade 5 in maffs Polly , I wouldnt worry too much, And I suspect far cheaper than repairing a van in monetary terms and inconvenience.

I was on a cl site acouple of weeks back and assuming they werent using leccy as an income stream, I reckon £2 a night maximum.1.e the leccy was on a meter token job !

As I said before, in a previous post, I worked out that my 750w oil filled radiator costs 6.3pence per hour to run on the rate we pay to our energy provider. Yours may vary.
It doesn't keep the van warm enough to live in, but certainly keeps it above freezing.
Hope this helps,

Jackie;)

As Jackie says, you only need to take the edge of the van, not heat it. I shut all my blinds overnight but open them during the day if the sun is out. Surprising the difference sunshine makes through a window or two.

ps Jackie, I am still waiting for my correct French translation. :D

I agree , dont understand the physics, can be enough to freeze the cobblers off outside but a bit of sunshine in the van can work wonders ,for thy inner peace if nowt else

Channa

You mean translation for this.......

Plus je connais les hommes
Plus j'aime les chiens
Et voila la traduction correcte...............

Cheers :)

I dont like men
I love dogs
And here is the correct translation.

Any house points ?

I have desperately attempted to learn French this last 12 months from a standing start.

Tried to get my head around female and male inarticulate objects.

eg how can a table be male or female ?

All part of the fun ( and generally impossible to get your head around)

A friend of mine in Belgioum native for 28 years gave me the same advice daily...forget you are English and what you have learnt start again

More to this language lark than i thought it seems

Afrikaans is even worse. You get a sore throat trying to speak it. I gave up but I did learn some Zulu swear words.

You can insult someone without them even knowing.:D

Just keep them warm

Sorry Guys & Gals, but I cannot see what the cost of a few nights electricity has in comparison to the cost of some of our motorhomes or frost damage that could result by not giving them a little heat and even the oldest and lowest valued are worth more than a few quids worth of electricity.
Naturally, it could be a problem for those of us that cannot get an electricity lead to our pride and joys.

I think that is the general suggestion so far ??

I for the last couple of weeks, have drained my water system and using barrels of water collected on my travels.

I am simply mindful when I kill the heating at night as snug as I am in a sleeping bag plus duvets etc the water supply is not as well cared for..

Come the de-freeze I hope more informative than expensive.

I think I am cheaper using my Truma, refillable lpg. of course, and the benefit of constant hot water for showers etc.

Saves draining down as well.

 didn't read it that way mcgrathy...thought he was simply enquiring
about running cost rather then the principal/pro's cons of using a heater.

anyroad... cost will depend on you tariff too, not just the time the heater is in use for:confused:
and its power requirement:eek:
so it's a bit like the length of a piece of string:eek:

me being a nuclear scientist:rolleyes: who's dapper with a spanner:cool: knows about stuff like this... honest
