You would have to know how much you spent on Gas and Diesel for the Heating , against what he spent to know who had the better result.
He could have run his heating fully on electric, same with water heating and cooking?

The site I was on. folk with electric cars where charging them F.O.C and the owner was getting ripped off on other things thats why the meters where installed on every point charging electric cars is more expensive than petrol.

Meters are the best way to go for Gas Water and electric and providing they are set correctly everyone wins I think , I wonder if there will ever be prepaid meters on sites ? A site we used to use in our early days in Spain had rewireable fuses in the supply boxes and you paid according to the fuse size you agreed on, if you blew the fuse you had to get the box unlocked and a new fuse fitted, if you did blow the fuse the guy from Reception known as HEIR GIT or HITLER also blew a fuse and made you wait ages till he got off his butt and came and changed the fuse!

Back in 2018 we used Lockside CS in Ripon and you had to buy prepayment cards for EHU. When you left they bought back used cards, most people gave their part used cards to new arrivals.

This year was a first for us using prepaid meter, but then we rarely use EHU, in this case the fridge wouldn't work on gas, IIRC we had £3 on card, at previous site we had to pay £10 extra for EHU which was way OTT.

Rarely use hook up but noticed quite a few slot metered electric hook ups during this years European trip. One of them had the slots well away from the allotted spaces - confusing!
