Hello, going to buy a cable for electric hookup. Can I have length recommendations please??? :lol-053:

I've read the longer the better :raofl: but don't want it taking up tooo much space...!!

Also read that distances might be longer in Europe than at sites in the UK..?

Thank you :)

I have 3, one at approx 25 metres, one at approx 15 metres and finally one at approx 5 metres.
On.
Short one is for my genny when wilding and has a 3 pin 13 amp plug fitted and other two for when on sites.

Virtually the same here  25m, 10m and 5m for genny.

I`ve also got a 15m one ( balance from the 10m one ) hard wired into the garage so i don`t have to take the others out when at home.

25 metres for normal use, extra 25 metres for Aires such as Honfleur where hook ups are often a long way from where you can park and a really long cable for those out of the way places ........

I carry one of about 15 metres and one of about 5.

Definitely worth carrying a short one so you don't end up with loads of spare cable on a pitch.

Three long and one reasonable short about 10m. Had to use them all on a UK CL once in bad weather, as all the pitches were unusable, we parked on a bit of hard standing in the entrance and needed all the cables to reach the nearest socket.

I also carried a continental 2 pin and UK 3 pin very short ones and numerous other adaptors including a 3 way sharing one. Had a reverse polarity one but never used it in anger.

I had a 25mtr I bought two more plugs one of each, then cut 10 Mtr off put the plugs on the bare ends so now I have a 15 mtr a 10mtr which is all have needed so far, or I can connect them together to make 25 mtr

I have a very long one but never used it.

hey trev its not the length that matters ,its what you can do with it that matters . oh and a hook up ive got a thirty meters one uesed it on camp sites with the abysmal trailer tent i had ,yes i know there worse than the wobble box ive got now but never needed one longer ample size for uk sites i found .

Splitters can be very handy, but sharing the load can often trip it out.

Check the available current before offering to share with anybody - there will be plenty for everyone if it's only a charge-up or fridge use needed. However, if someone uses an electric kettle, hair dryer or heating it will nearly always overload.

25m for EHU - only ever needed longer once and that was on a cl where the site owner knew the points were a distance away so had longer cables to use.
5m for Genny.

Plenty of advice about length for you, just wanted to add, make sure you unwind your cable fully when using, as a tightly wound cable can overheat when in use. :idea-007::cheers::goodluck:

Yep min 25m.

Nuther can only worms... my experience from much observance of such things, us brits predominantly and correctly use thick Orange armoured. I've seen French Dutch you name it germans with 50+ 100m of 13amp 'normal' cable. Packs smaller ... but ... (yes, some use orange, but not as much as us IMHO).

O metres. We stopped carrying a cable years ago. 250ah batteries, solar panel and moving most days seems to work ok even in winter, with low power usage - no satellite / TV.

They probably know how much power they are likely to draw and have a lead to suit their needs I myself only use EHU to charge batterys and power the fridge so don't need a 16 amp lead

This is similar to mine I fitted a blue plug Masterplug Cable Reel 4G 240V 20m | Reels & Drums | Screwfix.com 13A. 240V. Max. load 3120W (unwound).

Carry a 25m one but rarely use it, a shorter one at home to plug in the van in the garden to keep all batteries trickle charging.
I think, by regulation the longest EHU you can buy in UK is 25m.
