Just a heads up if your an occasional EE PAYG SIM user like me. I had the Devil's job getting mine topped up today and impossible to just buy a new one.

I'm heading up to the Lake District tomorrow where I know EE is the only game in town. I had not used my EE sim since Christmas so expecting it had expired I called the EE shop in Tewkesbury ten miles away. No problem they say, we have all the Sims online here. Just pop in. So off I pop on the bike but it turns out they only have subscription Sims and according to them in the shop you can't pick up PAYG SIM packs in shops like tesco etc anymore. So after half an hour in there which got me nowhere, a trip to wh smith who could sell me a top up with no guarantee it would work I end up on the phone to EE for almost an hour. In the end they reactivated my old EE SIM but it was a right mess on and expensive.

Something I thought would be a five minute job ended up a several hour job.

Would be useful to know if anywhere does still sell the EE SIM packs with a SIM.

One penny mobile uses ee sims, you can do all on the net on website, topups and add extra data etc

How much is their data Trev? I can't check as my internet is rubbish! 😁

The trouble is, when your on tour you need to be able to go in somewhere and physically buy a sim and data pack. Im just not sure how easy that is now on the high street. I'll get it sorted a bit more in advance next time I think. If I had not managed to get someone on the end of the phone at ee to reactivate my SIM today I think I would have been goosed.

Suppose e-sims will be the answer .
Though I've been told (by someone who knows) there is room for improvement with them
Mind you my current phone doesn't take them

I find that EE work just about anywhere I go Barry, up here it’s the No1 provider for coverage. Also if you have an account with BT they double your data.
I have three sims one for my phone, one for my wife’s phone, and a data sim for the mifi in the van. The van mifi only comes with 4gb but my phone is doubled from 150gb to 300, and I can transfer between all three sims. I cannot use that amount of data. All this for £35 a month.

I would swap to EE Bill from my main contract with Vodafone but there is no ee reception at home. Only Vodafone works there but certainly in the north and Scotland I've found ee better.

If I could guarantee WiFi calling would work with BT / EE I would make the switch but I've never got it to work on Vodafone.

I use 1p on contract, IIRC it's a rolling one month contract, for PAYG it does what it says on the tin, 1p/minute, 1p/text, 1p/MB, it also works very well for WiFi calling, much better than Vodafone in that respect.

+1 for 1p mobile who use the EE network. I have 2 of their sims, one in my phone and one for the mifi dongle in the van. I pay £36 per year for the phone sim which gets me unlimited calls and texts and 250mb/month data. Plenty for me but, in the unlikely event that I do need more, I can buy a 30 day data 'boost' - as they call it.

In the van I just buy a 30 day boost as required. 1p are not the absolute cheapest for data, although still reasonable IMO, but, if you do run out before the 30 days are up, you can add more straight away. You don't have to wait the full 30 days like most other providers.

Also, I find the 1p website easy to navigate.

For the odd times that the EE signal is poor I also have a Smarty sim (3) for the van, but I find the top up process a right PITA, especially if you don't want it to auto-renew.

(BTW if anyone does buy a 1p sim, let me know, I can provide a code which will give both of us a £5 top up bonus)

All 4 mobiles here have 1 year rolling contract for £36 + 250 data, yes when away we add extra for the kids, i require a new ph as 3g is being switched of for good on ee jan 24, other will work to 2025, i want a linux ph but way to expensive with low ram and camers rez, so wont happen just yeat.

Worth considering RWG as well; they use the EE network and subscriptions are flexible from month to month.

The 1p mobile might work for the future. £36 per year sounds fine and if you can then boost as and when you want for those prices Trev posted that would be perfect. I paid £25 today just for 30gb direct with EE which I'll use in five days to a week.

Will check out RWG also.
