Lots of places just outside town . Leith links , Portobello etc
Easy bus ride . Edinburgh has a top bus service .
There are campsites not too far out .
Also park n ride .
Really depends what kind of place you prefer to stop at

Another thing to consider might be getting a train in... The Borders Railway starts at Tweedbank (free parking and people park there for days but I don't recall seeing signs about no overnight sleeping), and ends in the center of Edinburgh at Waverly. It's not expensive. There are many stations along the route too - some might offer better camping facilities nearby....

Google Lothian Bridge Caravan Park choice of bus or train into Edinburgh, with Eskbank and Newtongrange stations a ten minute walk. Over the road from site entrance is the Sun Inn, nice pub with good food.

Park owners, also motorhome owners own and run garage/MOT station, which is where I take my MH.

We used to stay at Silverknowes motorhome and caravan club site. Nice walk through golf course for a choice of buses to city centre. However we have stayed at
Lothian Bridge and can highly recommend the Sun Inn.
