East Loch Lomond Camping Ban in force from 1 March

Informal camping prior to the ban

The summer ban on wild camping along the southern section of the east Loch Lomond shore comes into force today (1 March). The restrictions, which apply to campervans and sleeping in your car as well as tents, means camping outwith the three organised campsites between Drymen and just north of Rowardennan is illegal and can result in a fine. The ban, which was brought in by the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park to try and prevent damage by campers, including fisherman and large weekend groups, run until October and are enforced by rangers who patrol the area. The ban effects walkers on the West Highland Way who can camp at the two Forest Enterprise campsites at Cashel and Milarrochy or the new, basic camp area at Sallochy Bay. Further details, including a map of the restricted area, can be found on the Park website. Details of the campsites, other accommodation options, and route for the West Highland Way, including free OS mapping can be found on Walkhighlands.
