Phoning the DVLA is a waste of time even if you eventually get through after pushing god knows how many buttons until you reach a human!
I have found an email generally gets a very swift response especially on the medical side if one is caught in the trap of over 70 and removal of C1 qualification.
useful email addy is eftd@dvla.gsi.gov.uk and give them your ref no, driving licence number and a phone number.
I queried my renewal the other day and had phone call back in an hour telling me my heart was OK and qualification was renewed, Good result, mind you it had taken three hospital visits for tests and scans and EIGHT MONTHS
