ducato wing mirrors

hi,
my long arm mirrors seem to have 'lost' the stop which enables the mirror to go back exactly to the same position when they have been folded in/out - any ideas please?

But do they just swing about aimlessly or go fully out or fully in or just stay where they are put?

If the latter, then I'd leave it as is. I assume the have a spring & button/indent arrangement in the swivel, so that would have to be dismantled to see what's gone wrong.

Dirt in the indent?
Button missing or broken?
Spring broken?

You can buy whole replacement assemblies off e-bay, but they are pricey - 50-100 squid, so worth having a crack at repairing if you can, or get a replacement from a scrap yard.

Hi, what year is your ducato, if its the old one like the talbot express try the guys on TolbotOC. com.

Returned from Weymouth yesterday. Whilst driving over a narrow-ish railway bridge some idiot going at what appeared to be a hundred miles an hour took off our drivers wing mirror on a Fiat Ducato based Motorhome. The aluminium arm seared in half. It was a pig to drive with no rear visibility. Had to stop and buy a mirror in Halfords and tape it to some wood and then tape all that to what was left. Replacement from Fiat was £200 but £90 from wingmirrorman. He knew immediately what I needed. It took Fiat dealer about 15 mins to suggest something and then I wasn't convinced it was correct.

many thanks

Thanks to all that have given me advice , it has been greatly appreciated. Not had the time to respond sooner, been working helping other elderly people at home with some of their problems.
