Just a little general comment ... having a problem with a "Ducato reversing light" is not very descriptive as unless it is a panel van conversion camper, there are so many rear light designs and cluster styles, anything other than generic suggestions will not be possible.
Yup, I know you have found the problem and it was a bad earth, but just a request for any similar questions from anyone .... providing more information will generate more specific and likely useful help.

I live in France so not on a trip. I am just preparing the van for a Greek trip in late August when it starts to get cooler!
