We gritty Northerners don't need to spend as much of our drinking time in the baaaarth, as the Soft southerners , is because:
a) It's cold up here, we sweat less.

b) It rains a lot, we're constantly damp.
c) It's dark and cloudy.. The dirt doesn't show.
d) Where there's muck, there's brass.
