Having come up with a solution to holding the door open involving suckers, Velcro and a bit of stainless steel I thought I had it sorted. Unfortunately this rig has not stood the test of time and another fix has been found.

After seeing how good the vacuum mounts our so uses for rigging mikes, cameras etc I had a cast around and came up with two cheap Go Pro type mounts linked up back to back, like this ...

Might be of use to someone and I’ve seen the mounts on eBay for about half of what I payed.

I can’t get more than a few months out of retainers on flat doors never mind curved like the Hobby has. Let us know how you go on when you get some breeze 👍

Will do. The suction pads are rated at 30kg direct pull apparently.

These are much better than the retainers usually fitted, and they have a delightful name!

Changed the ones on our Hymer for those very retainers and they were far better than the usual offering. The curve on the Hobby presents the problem for that type though.

Well a few months on and I can confirm that the suction cups do hold on to the door in a good breeze.

My Pilote has that type and unfortunately a strong gust of wind slammed the hab door shut knocking the fly screen out of its runner.
I now use a short bungee cord between the hab and drivers door, works a treat as long as I remember to use it lol.

Did they not come with a door stay out of the factory?
My 750 has a folding metal one under the door on the bodywork.

I've seen that on another 750 and i've seen it done as a modification on a van the same age as ours. Perhaps it was standard up until 2004 or something but this little gizmo does work.

What about this style of latch which someone hinted at folding metal latch
