Don't use the cooker to heat your van

You should never sleep with the gas cooker on to keep you warm. I have a Carbon Monoxide alarm installed, costs
£20. It is worth it just in case you are silly enough to have the gas on. (Sorry if I sound rude in my last sentence)

cooker

da- I agree cooker dangerous proper heaters not but reghardles alwys ensureome ventilation even if only a chink in drivers/passenger window. I currently use catalytic kept on all night in that really cold spell-jeez de price of camping gaz but bloody tin calor doesnt fit well soonest i back continent where new snap on everything 7.5 k cube( le cube-available everywhere) the better. interchangeable regulators snap on also fit the super new plastic 11.5 k bottles ( also available everywhere) (with sight guage built bin)
Have a trauyma bpoiler and seperate heater in my 34 yr old hymer havent dared light the boiler( exterior for years as shower balance taps us like so m uch else - IT IS OLD and a priojec for someone -ROI reg tho' engienand chassis sound anyway I've driven for miles in the ast when in 20 plus below in eastern europe with the trauma hard at it- otherwise would have frozen. meantime calor has a total vice like grip on gas here and likely to keep everything new at bay to increase its already glutted profits.

There by the grace of God, go I

Two quilts resolved my heating issues in the winter at night. Why use heaters anyway and that was without my best heater, the Boss, she is the best heater of all!

The article tells only half the story in a typical sensationalist local rag style

(a) Have a CO alarm (electronic/siren type not brown disk) with self test mode.
(b) Have adequate ventilation - windows/turbofan
(c) Don't use while asleep
(d) (not even mentioned) Make sure area all around burner is lined with metal/flameproof material

If you do ALL 4 and have a fire extinguisher as well it is perfectly safe to use the gas stove to take the chill off the van as I have done a fair few times.

I'd add that ventilation needs to be permanently open - upper and lower vents.

I have the turbo fan going on mine on low setting to provide positive change of air, though I've got other passive ventilation too.

I totally agree with Firefox. I have exactly a,b,c,d. in action when I want to get warm during a cold day & evening, when awake. Though, when it is time to hit the sheets, I turn off the gas. A tog 15 quilt & the Mrs give me sufficent heat for the night. To date I have not used the cooker gas as my heating system is in order. I would do it only if I had to.

To be honest it's no different to making a slow cook dish where you'd have the heat on for a few hours maybe mostly on low. It's under control and you are awake nearby in the van.

But I'd always have a pan on to radiate the heat, so it doesn't go directly up into any cupboards over. I use a heavy cast iron grill pan or another lighter metal tray pan kept just for the purpose.

Not a bad idea, if and when someone needs to do it.

gaz bottles

I have a proper 'sealed' gas bottle cupboard, the Gaz bottles you get in say Morocco are a bit worn, I had one leak in the cupboard, which has a release hole at the bottom, but there were holes cut in the box for pipework and not sealed, so I nearly gassed myself one night - don't underestimate it
