Don't renew your AA cover.....yet

Are you with the AA? If so you may profit from what has recently happened to me. As a result of a surgical operation I will be unable to drive until the end of the year.

So when my AA breakdown cover renewal notice came through a month ago I decided not the pay the premium and told the AA why. However we are now within days of my cover ending and on the doormat today I found a letter. This letter notes that I have failed to renew and as an incentive to do so offers me a 25% discount off my premium.

So had I renewed at the first prompt, I would have paid over the odds by that 25%. It just pays to hang on apparently- interesting.

Tco.

We always alternate between the AA and RAC each year, because they will always give big reductions for a new member, but they put the prices back up for the 2nd year. So much for loyalty to customers!

I get free AA membership with my insurance, just as well because if I fell off the wagon I would have no one to turn to.

I find myself in the position that friends and family are getting thin on the ground, so I no longer have anyone that I could call to come pick me up in the case of a breakdown ... I really need to take out a deal with some of these folks.

I've heard that the German Co ADAC are really good? is anyone with them? have you used their service, hows it compare? I have two drivers, two cars and the campervan?

TIA

Cheers

Yes you can definetly haggle with AA.

They either drop the price or if you prefer will add extra cover for no additional cost.

I also had house building and contents insurance with them last year but at renewal they tried to put the price up. I just dropped them and went elsewhere. I dunno why they bother trying to rip people off. We all have access to comparison sites now. Must think we button up the back.

I am insured with Footman James. Last renewal when told the premium I commented that it was a bit high. I was transferred to another lady who promptly cut £70 off the price. Just for asking!!

I got what I thought was a great combined deal (~£330) with Sureterm Direct and, as a result. sang its praises elsewhere on this site.

Unfortunately, after less than a month, my plans changed and I sold the Bongo that I had just bought only to be offered £152 refund on the cancelled policy.

Turns out that only the insurance policy was pro-rated and that the extensive European Roadside Cover (~£100) was a one off payment which was deducted along with various other "set up" charges.

What a rip-off!!!
