We have seen an autotrail imala 715 for sale at don amott leisure kingdom. Has anybody had dealings with them. It is a long way from home, think we might be better buying from somewhere closer.

In our experience, buying from a dealer a long way from home was a terrible mistake & led to many lost weekends & frustration.
Mind you, it wouldn't have been an issue if we hadn't had such terrible problems with the van & the dealer's crap service.
Think very hard about it.

Can't help
But I would buy closer to home if anything is wrong you can get it sorted without travelling miles

I bought my motorhomes from don amotts .as said don't buy from a dealer a long way from home as you will have to take it back and leave it proberbly several times,.

they do have an overnight spot for waiting .getting booked in is a problem as they are very busy you will have to wait several weeks to have repairs done,

sometimes you may have to take it back for examination then take it back again for repairs, and then again if the parts are wrong as I did .if they were closer to home I would us again ,as a dealer they were ok .

Dealers can sell with absolute confidence and still things go wrong !! you don't mention new or used , but with used vehicles often dealer backed warranty that can be difficult to get fixed elsewhere, not always the case but warranty labour rates etc vary from area to area. With new vehicles not as bad because a lot of warranty issues are down to Autotrail so in theory anyone in their network can undertake remedial work

I would personally by local when possible it puts you in a stronger position

Todds don't have a second hand one in stock. Would rather buy local.
Yes good idea.

If they are local it will be easy to go back and you will know more about their reputation.

All the trades are good at taking your money, but some are not so good at giving it back.

I'm having problems with a website that recommends traders, but the website says its nothing to do with them if the trader is dodgy.

However the traders pay the website to get the jobs. :mad2::mad2::mad2:

Don Amott

Two of my relations bought MH's from him, both had problems. One was a crack on the overhead bunk, the answer was when he complained they are not meant to be lived in full time. The one was a Lunar Roadstar, delaminated on the back, Don Amotts would not repair it so he had to repair it himself. Numerous people I know have bought caravans and they have not been happy.
Bought my last three off the internet. It is ok saying that there is no guarantee but dealers load the price up to allow for a guarantee. I prefer to pay less money and allow myself a couple of grand incase. Private is always best as long as you check it out properly.
I did see a chart of the worst MH Dealers and Brownhills and Amotts were at the top.
Hope this helps. PJ

A lot depends what you are buying and if you are prepared to do a bit of DIY .. We are in Nottingham and Laika MH came from Southdowns in Portsmouth. We have had a couple of problems but nothing that couldn't wait. Factory sent me a couple of sliding door gliders when I found one was cracked. It was still working but needed replacing. Problem with the top of the awning found out you need la escalera to stick some black tape on this was sorted when we went to see friends on South Coast.

Some of the MH's have a terrible reputations for reliability and would be best avoided for a long distance purchase. It's a pity the manufacturers don't keep a service log that is available so you can see all the work that has been done on a SH Motorhome right back to when it was new.

We meet a couple a few years back. They were on their 3rd Bailey Caravan. His wife said she hoped this one wasn't going to leak like the last two and have to go back to the factory. I asked why he bothered with Bailey and he said I keep it in their storage and they just go and get it out when I give them a list of all the faults that need fixing.

Spinney, Holmes Chapel, might be worth a look they are Autotrail dealers.
I've heard that their sales side is pretty reasonable, ( for a dealership ).
Their service side is not doing too well,at present, having lost key staff.

We got our last one from spinney and we had excellent service all round. They haven't got the van we are looking for though apart from a brand new one,

We bought ours from Don Amott. They went through a list of items and repaired everything we spotted at the time and a few more besides. They fitted a brand new awning (no idea why). We had a few issues develop including a cracked shower tray, a new one was ordered and installed; at the initial check one of the windows was delaminating, they replace it and another. Later we found another window going, so after lots of back and toing involving the window importer and Polyplastic we had new windows fitted all around. We had set the ball rolling on the windows and a full Mclouis / Polyplastic recall followed.

They sorted everything without issue but took some pushing to get things resolved, we did end up going back and several times to get everything sorted. I would buy from them again but only live an hour or so from them so that was not a massive issue but could have been if we had been further away.
