does any body know what the situation is regarding the parking/picnic site at chanonry point on the black isle near inverness regarding locals and height barriers etc.?

Dolphins

Heading north on the A9 over Kessock Bridge, there is no problem.
I have used it when my wife is in hospital in Inverness.
Heading south, just before the bridge, there are height barriers, no toilets, no water.
Area was taken over some time back by the unntaxed and uninsured. A combination of police & local authority moved them on to bring joy to others elsewhere.

Its the untaxed

Its these new age travelers and pikeys that our killing wild camping in the UK. I have seen pikeys my the 100,s in france durring the summer and a right pain they are too. One needs to lock all away, and keep the dogs in view. Just hate them.

it's the untaxed?

live and let live. obviously not at terry,s camp sites and at the time of good will to all men , even the "untaxed".

"Untaxed"...

We regularly see the "untaxed" vehicles getting what's due to them when the Police hold practical press conferences for us Toggies to promote the squashing of the offending vehicle, quite a sight to see anything from a clapped out Sierra through to a 51 reg Mégane getting squished!

Untaxed

My post referred to "untaxed and uninsured"...while some may have sympathy with the first group, am I supposed to believe that driving uninsured IS acceptable?

all i wanted to know about was the parking at chanonry point. not about the great unwashed !! mr. sagart, did you mean the car park at the dolphin centre just past the bridge ? i have looked at the os map and at chanonry point there is a picnic site marked..that is the point i meant . a merry christmas to all my devoted readers !!!

Dolphins

My comment about "untaxed and uninsured" had nothing to do with any group other than the one I spoke of who were using the picnic area on the southward side of the A9 north of Inverness....and whose behaviour has now closed the site to legitimate users, blocking access provided at considerable public expense to a superb walking area.
The police were stopping drivers for road checks near this area, but were "unwilling" to examine the "travellers" vehicles despite their totally dilapidated appearance, some displaying beer mats instead of tax discs, the wreckage and damage on the site and the threatening behaviour of this group to any who pulled in to what is a legitimate rest area.
The excuse was the need to "maintain public order".

i wish i hadnt mentioned it now !!! talk about a new can of worms !!
