Any one know of someone who can/will repair invertors? Have just comitted the most stupid error... Camper was connected to mains, conditioning batteries, and whilst still charging I connected the leads from the invertor to the leisure batteries and ... Ooooerrr look at that dent my head's made in the roof! There was one heck of a bang and funny smells ( ). I have taken it apart and had a looksy but electrics and myself are like a cow looking at a watch! I have attached an image to show whats happened. The one listed as 1 is the damaged "thing" the one listed as 2 is what the "thing" should look like.

The melted one may still work have you checked the fuse that should of gone 1st ive melted mine and it still works.

Item has two fuses, both of which were/are intact! I , with my great knowledge of electrics  , assume that the current came up the wires "backwards" and blew the "thing" before reaching the fuses?! Wire is funny stuff isn't it... Why do the manufacturers pack so much smoke under the plastic cover on the wire :D

Recycling

Just recycling this message in case there is a new member that may know a tad more than me about sparks!

oops!

i may be having a senior moment but i can't understand why this should happen just cos you have mains connected.
you should still only have a nominal 12/13v at the battery while charging and most inverters will tollerate around 15v.
more likely someone cant tell red from black.

edit,
do you have the invertor output connected to the domestic sockets (bad practice). if so you need a 4pole isolator(preferably electronic so when you connect mains the invertor disconnects automaticly) fitting in curcuit between mains and invertor. a good sparky would be able to configure it.
