Hi,
I'm new to this site, I just stumbled upon it and seems very friendly, so I'd like to ask for your advise if I may?
We have been thinking about getting a camper for a while, and recently our second car packed in and not worth getting it repaired due to the cost. the guy at the local garage where we took the car told us he had a camper with our name on it.
It's a 1996 renault master diesel, that has been partially converted, they are asking £3000 and they'll take the car off us.
it's had a new exhaust, timing belt, it's got reverse camera with sound, a cooker, sink, drawers, cupboards, it's got heating, electric hook up got two gas cylinders, water tank, the back end has been blocked off, cos they used it to transport motorbikes to race meetings. it's got great potential, there's loads of room to put in a bed. the bodywork looks sound, no rust, there's obviously some scratched etc. I took it for a test drive the other day and really enjoyed driving it. it's a great blank canvas to do a nice bit of vinyl wrapping
What do you think, is £3000 a reasonable price?
thanks :)

Yes, that sounds about right for a Renault. You will have a fair bit of work to do on a self-build but having said that, I have always done my own vans - Have fun :)

I'm not very knowledgeable about these things but hubby is and he advises caution.

Have a look at Renault conversions on eBay and get a feel for the price of a similar thing is similar condition. There are lots of Renault Master conversions on eBay at the moment.

It doesn't have to be a Renault, of course, does it? You could look at anything that's within your price range and then think and think and think until your brain hurts - that's what we did and I believe we made the right decision in the end. Don't be tempted to jump at the first thing offered because you might regret it once you've got time to reflect.

Good luck!

Hi there, exciting isn't it. I remember that I couldn't wait to get my camper last year.
You didn't say if it had an MOT or not. I wouldn't by a vehicle without one. Also a mechanic friend of mine said many years, that as long as the chassis ok, ie, no serious rust, then everything else can be replaced if it goes wrong, but if your vans got bad rust then you're always going to be throwing money at it.
I'd recommend putting a fridge in. It's great in summer when your milk stays fresh, your butter doesn't melt and your beers are cold. Good luck
