A little snippet that has come to my attention, may be worth bearing in mind, ( especially if you're AJ!!! ).

ACPO, ( the association of chief police officers ), advise police who stop motorists for speeding on motorways, only to prosecute if they are exceeding 96mph.

Some officers choose not to follow this advice but most do.

If you are stopped for speeding on a motorway at less than this speed, it may be worth politely mentioning this fact to the officer, and it could well be that you'll get off with a slap on the wrist and a ticket rather than a ban and a large fine!!

Just thought it was worth mentioning, mind how you go. :D :D

I'm safe enough anyway, can't get much more than 65mph out of our old girl.

By the way, this quote was taken from an email I received about beating speed traps and getting off speeding tickets. If it does'nt work at the roadside ( after all the officer has ticket targets to meet ), then it may ( or not ), work in court via your legal representative.

I have never been in a situation where I've needed to use it so I don't know if it works. I just put it on here for general information.

 Just imagine in front of the magistrates, 'my client admits he was driving at 95mph. 25mph above the LEGAL speed limit but as the Association of Chief Police Officers advises officers to only prosecute drivers doing over 96mph he believed it was acceptable to drive at such speed.'

hmm, can't see it working myself :D

96mph sounds pretty high to me. I heard it was 82mph.

Of course both are illegal speeds and there's not a chance that our motor caravan would do anywhere near that - we'd be lucky to get 60 mph downhill with the wind behind us.

If you were doing over 70 in the inside lane then you could easily and would more than likely be prosecuted at a higher speed as you wouldn't need to be going any faster as there is nothing to overtake.

However, middle or third lane then you could be doing faster speed to overtake plus an allowance for speedometer not being calibrated correctly. Therefore, 82mph could be arguable

You could always say you've just spent the last ten years living in Germany and driving on their no speed limit autobahns.

Sorry m'lud, forgot what country I was in!!!

Of course, knowing an organisation like ACPO, it probably only applies to police drivers rushing back to base to have their tea break before the donuts disappear!!
