Visiting their factory tomorrow, it's only 30 mins down the road.
They do new conversions on used vans which reduces the cost substantially.
Any members own a Devon conversion ? Would be interested in opinions etc.

so Devon conversions are not in Devon? seems a bit suss to me.

Things you automatically assume, I thought they were in Devon too, haha.

They have been around for what seem like ever, so they must be doing something right.

Devon conversions

Devon conversions are first class......I had one a few years back, and they do all types of vehicles even tiny vans........I wish you put the exact address of the factory, to help out......where on earth is ferryhill.?..........Steve bristol

Devon conversions were originally in Newton Abbot in Devon,Renwicks transport group bought them in the 70s they were sold to various short lived constructors. Eventually it just became a name to buy and sell. My chum had one 8 years ago and ended up taking them to court, but may I add this was a firm in Carlisle who traded as Devon Conversions. I bought a Renwicks Devon Eurovette in 1981 and it was an excellent layout and extremely versatile.

originally they were j,p, white conversions in sidmouth . Devon Conversions (Sidmouth 1956 – 1985) | Far Out Campers | VW Campervan Hire Buckinghamshire | Hire Campervans
i was lucky as my uncle was involved with vw back then and we often went to the factory . my first vw camper was a j.p. white devon torvette.
they moved to exeter and the name changed . i still have lots of devon stickers and markings . some friends and i aquired loads of things at an auction when they closed at exeter . i actually have their eurovette name stickers on my trailer .
great conversions in their time .

Good luck with it. I have relatives around the Ferryhill area, most of them worked at Mainsforth Colliery and surrounding Pits. We lived just down the old A1 at Rushyford years ago and I worked in Fishburn.

Many years ago I remember the original owners of Devon Conversions Ltd. sold the co. name. I think it went for £9000, to a firm based somewhere in East Anglia.

Just traded in Grenville for a second hand Devon conversion; a Monaco on a Renault Master body. It suits us quite well, although the storage area comes as a bit of a shock after a coach built! Probably a good thing as we tend to carry WAY too much, just incase it might be needed. Standard seems quite high, and we hope it will work out for us, as we plan to use it as a sole vehicle once our Motability car goes back.

My first camper was a 1960 VW Devon. Bought it for fifty quid.
Great conversion, used to light the gas with a live cable sparking to Earth on the burner.
Electrics were 6v, but often jump started it with 12v.
Would go anywhere...slowly!
Was great for picking girlfriends up to go out at night, the expression on their dads face!
Happy days!

Visited Devon today. Impressed with the motorhomes on display and appear well built.
Taking son back on Saturday, looking at a Tempest, 2 berth built on a Renault Master mwb. They have just got in a 64 reg van to convert into a Tempest. 15,000 miles, aircon, alloys, satnav, metallic silver, colour coded bumpers etc, etc. 5/6 weeks to convert once I sign on the bottom line and pay my deposit.
Will have new conversion with any options I want at a saving of £13,000 versus buying a new van conversion on a 16 plate. A no brainier imho.
They had a Monte Carlo conversion recently built on a 64 reg van for sale but lwb which was virtually the same length as my Swift so I would have the same problems parking in small villages which was one of my main problems with the Swift.
If I decide to go for the Tempest I will get a second leisure battery and possibly a solar panel depending on what they charge. It comes as standard fitted with a 11kg gas low system which is a bonus.

Looking at your photos is yours a Monte Carlo ? The storage under the fixed bed I looked at today was huge !

Devon would want £599.00 to supply and fit a 100 watt solar panel and regulator.
I commented that the price was a bit steep to which he replied yes but it's a thin profile version and a good make.
He mention the make but don't think I will bother at that price.
I assume fitting a panel to a PVC is no different than to a coach built apart from steel roof versus plastic / aluminium ?
I wouldn't be confident fitting one but no way am I paying Devon £599.00 if I decide to buy a van from them when I visit them with my son on Saturday.

80W panel, cable, regulator, terminals, tube of Sikaflex 521, aluminium angle, pop rivets, should be no more than £150 plus your time. All available ex. eBay. For £599 Devon must intend fitting a very special panel.

I have a mix of the very best Saturn Space technology solar panels and Chinese. The Chinese are the sensible option, a few % increase in efficiency may be critical in a Space Satellite system, but not likely in a motorcamper/caravan. just make up any real or perceived deficit with a larger panel.

The reason I have the expensive Saturn Panels is because 25 years ago they were virtually all I could get.
