hi all we have used French Spanish and Belgium aires for many years. going to Germany for a month in September for the first time are the stellplatze's any different from the others thanks happy camping

We really like Germany, to us most of them are the same or better than in France. We have never found a problem stopping anywhere even if we can't find a Stellplatz. Good book to get is the Reisemobil International » Bordatlas Though it is in German you can soon understand how it works.
Most of the German dealers have a couple of spaces for you to stop overnight often with free hook up.
Where are you intending to go & when? The Caravan Salon Dusseldorf show is on end of Aug. beginning Sept. CARAVAN SALON 2010 -- Facts & Figures -- Trade Fair Dusseldorf, Germany The Mosel is a fantastic area in Sept. Oct. time with all the wine festivals. Other nice places are the Black Forest & Bavaria.
We did do Northern Germany one year & found a few nice places but don't expect to find many nice beaches, you also have to pay to actually go onto the beach in some places

Hello
Fully agree with Kontiki. We love the place. Its huge and one of, if not the most motorhome friendly country in Europe. In a month you will only scratch the surface.Just come back from a 3 month trip to Scandinavia. Travelling up through Germany we came across so many nice places it took us 3 weeks to reach Denmark. On the way back we came via the ferry from Trelleborg to Lubeck (cheaper than driving through Denmark) and because we were missing the grandchildren we had to stick to the autobahns with the right foot down. The autobahns are great for long distances and toll free.In my opinion driving standards in Germany are very good. The high powered German cars doing 120 MPH in the outside lane will not bother you toddling along in your motorhome. Get the Bord Atlas its the German motorhomers bible 19.99 euros at most motorhome dealers in Germany. Lots of really good Aires free or just a few euros. We will be back in Germany in about three weeks time. Have a good trip.

We spent a couple of weeks in Germany last month and used the stellplatz all the time. Typically we paid 8 euros a night plus something for electric - usually 1 euro either for 8 hours or for a fixed amount of electric (sorry I don't know how to explain it better). They are very like the French aires but not so easy to find so it's good to have an idea where you are going before you get there. This site is mentioned elsewhere in the forums but I used it before our trip and planned our stops with it - http://touring24.info/index.asp It also tells you the costs and facilities, and has good maps to the locations.

The german tourist information website is also excellent - one of the best imho - and they are really generous at sending out information and brochures.

Have a great time!
