Dear Primeminister,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing the UK's economy.

Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them £1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire.
Ten million job openings - unemployment fixed

2) They MUST buy a new British car.
Ten million cars ordered - Car Industry fixed

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
Housing Crisis fixed

4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university -
Crime rate fixed

5) They MUST buy £100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week .....
And there's your money back in duty/tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

Also………..
Let's put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.

This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.

They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool and education.

Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.

Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.

Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay £600.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.

Think about this (more points of contention):

COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Appleby almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the county of Cumbria?

And, they even tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 125,000 illegal immigrants wandering around our country!! Maybe we should give each of them a free cow!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also;
Think about this ... If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone -- YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM! It is time for the pissed off folk of Britain to speak up!

I like your post and have copied a link to my face book page,

Rob

yep i found it amusing , but i also did when i first saw it a couple of years ago aswell :p

well i liked the post and cannot think of one reason to complain only i can remember you said that teachers were not worth there money :rolleyes: sometimes the old ones as some point out realy mean somthing think you have a point ....for once

Well, thanks to the positive notes, it was the first time I had seen it, so apologies to those that have seen it before, proof that we just can't please all the people all the time!!
Looking forward to JOHN H's comments...where is he?
Seriously though, it makes you think doesn't it?
I fear for the future generations. Look how bad things have got in the last 40 years.

you forgot to give oaps time out for good behaviour. How would they get out in their vans otherwise?

hi, yes it as been around a while that letter. but think on uk is as good as it gets at the moment as been for a number of years. best i,ve known in my life. the quality and standard of living by most in this country is very high. you can disapear in winter come back get a job earn enough to go away next winter for 6 months. best uk stops moaning pulls its finger out and works hard . doesnt matter which goverment is in uk slipped down as we got rid of the british empire. the reason so many foreigners are here is because uk workers think they are better than the work available and wont do it. the managers dont speak to workers and workers try to cheat the managers. want more money for less work. cant happen and never will. blame the uk for its problems if you want but if you want to get on its possible . we possibly are the cheapest place to live in the eu now. shame many dont realise that.

Dear Prime Minister

First time I've seen this and I like it. The only problem i can see is - How do us pensioners escape to go wilding???

AyGee

Liked the first section - very redistributive, very socialist. Have you seen the light?

There is, however, a problem with section 2 - wouldn't all the criminals you have transferred to nursing homes just retire early at 50 and claim your £1 million? I think your manifesto needs working on.

On a serious note - and sadly - I share your fear for future generations. I have two delightful grandchildren and I am determined to make sure they enjoy their childhood as much as possible because I dread to think what kind of world they are going to grow up in. This is one ocassion when I hope I am wrong - but I fear I am probably not.

far from getting bad in the last 40yrs. its got much better .i dont see my family going down coal pits and having black lines like tatoos all over their bodies.i do see more washing machines ,tumbler driers etc in houses .making life far easier. i also see several cars ,m,homes in peoples drives. wake up the standard of living is far better. more going on continental holidays even to america and china, australia. .40 yrs ago most went to oz on assisted packages to get away from here because they also thought it was bad. good riddance to them. work hard play hard ,its not what yoy earn its what you spend it on ,thats the differance. never a borrower or a lender be .i was taught as a kid and its still the same. look after your pennies the pounds lok after them selves.
unfortunately most people have eyes bigger than their belly . live above their means and blame everyone else. thats the down fall of uk. that and thinking they are hard done by, rosey coloured specs dont help.cheers have fun,i do.

I accept that my generation has had it good - free university education, jobs for life, affordable mortgages, early retirement etc. My fears are for the future generations, having to pay the price for the financial mess that they did nothing to create. They will not have free education (and the way things are going, possibly not free health care either), they will not have affordable mortgages (or any at all), they will be lucky if they find a secure job as we did and they will almost certainly not enjoy a very long retirement. They will still be paying for the mess when they die. Not a very exciting prospect is it?

Let me put it this way - if I had the choice of when to be born, I don't think I could have chosen a luckier time. We all want our children and grandchildren to enjoy life at least as much as we did and they are going to find it increasingly hard to do so.

biggest problem now is so many are highly educated but have no intelligence. or common sense.this comes from being out in the real world and not from being institutionalised into thinking they are smart. down to earth people never have a problem getting on with life. but the accademic crowd never stop moaning.

I think we must be related Alan.

Having spent some of my working life in the poorest countries on Earth, I never moan because I have nothing to moan about. In fact I count my blessings to have been born and raised in this country.

If I had to moan about something, it would be the fact that we have allowed politicians to run the country poorly at times. Democracy is still the best system in my opinion though.

Unfortunately common sense ain't that common... in the old days 50% of kids left school and went down the pit or into the mills, antisocial behaviour was not tolerated in these environments and was met with summary justice. Nowadays 50% of kids are supposed to go to University to study UFOlogy or some other such sh*te. Consequently the streets are awash with pond life who think the world owes them a living. Oops... think the 'cynical lock' is stuck on.

and our fathers and grandfathers generation and mine pushed for this kind of life . but still its far better than it ever was . old people demand respect .someone as to tell them they should command it by their actions. but they dont. youngsters are only trained by their elders .it could be you. unfortunately the pits and mills are not the best way of explaining this as my family did in fact work tin mines coalmines and my mothers family came from the mills in lancashire. all know about respect.it was the mill owners that shut the mills in the use of cheap labour in other countries and coal can be got at a far safer way to mankind and cheaper ,in east germany and poland just to name a few places. best not look back look at today .we cant change the past ,nor the future (it asnt happened yet)moaning doesnt help . show the way help the young to gain the real way forward . its not their fault .but could be yours . not mine i have struggled with the over educated for years . hate teachers (well most)and dislike many lazy workers and bad managment. life is what you make it .it cant make itself. i like the young people and have worked with some very hard ,rough characters .most have found a valuable place in society. give me a troubled teenager to an educated one every time. but troubled parents are just trouble. if you arent happy with your life there is only you to blame .(health permiting)choice use it. its your choice.we cant al be rich but we do have choice .its just some make the wrong choice again and again.as for free education never had it. jobs for life .only untill you told the boss to stick it up his arse.i have a boy 32yr old still does it can find a job just about anywhere any time . even worked in maroc while we travelled there a few years ago. jobs are easy to find getting rich or having an easy job is a different matter.

Alan, I totally agree that there is no necessary connection between intelligence and common sense (as has been illustrated on this forum many times!) but disagree that we cannot change the future (that seems a very defeatist attitude to me). Both intelligence and common sense tell me that my generation have had a generally lucky and prosperous life compared to most of the rest of the world and compared to our forefathers. They both also tell me that our grandchildren will find it harder to make their way in the world for the reasons I have already given. Nobody is owed a living but if things get harder then that is a move in the wrong direction in my view and I will do everything in my power to ensure as good a life as possible for my grandchildren (while at the same time teaching them their responsibilities). As for saying that there are plenty of jobs if you look, then I am sure there are many people around who will give you chapter and verse of how they have been long-term unemployed despite constantly looking for a job and despite being willing to do anything. I can't tell you that because I am fortunate enough not to have been in that position (but I know several who have been and it is not pleasant).

Of course there have always been problems and difficulties and people used to die a lot younger than they do now. My point is not that things were better in the "old days"; it is that I can see a return to more difficult times for future generations. If I am moaning, it is not for my (fortunate) life but for those who follow. And the really depressing thing is that our leaders (of whichever political persuasion) never seem to learn from the mistakes of the past (I would make a degree in history compulsory for any aspiring prime minister!).

hi john .if you can change the future you are the only person in the world that can. how do you know whats going to happen ?we cant change it bescause we dont know and if you dont know how then you prove my point that education is wasted on many. we can guide others ,i try .but its very hard when educated people think they can change the future, if you know whats going to happen may be you can give us a few tips to bet with. or maybe you are part of back to the future 4/5/6 what ever it is. is the proffesor still alive.
work hard and the world is your oyster. be prepared to move around and you will find work. many eu citizens find their way here and get work while idle layabouts have never worked. too many have high qualifications to do work that there is no jobs for .thats caused directly by the education system that i think are crap. train people to work in the jobs thats around seems much better to me.
also mortgages have never been cheaper. but best dont borrow for anything else. save up then save again. borrowing costs . unfortunately many havent realised it yet.
2+2=4 or 22 when i went to school.

Hi Alan.

Changing the future is easy - all you have to do is do something! If we all say that nothing can be done, whatever will happen will happen, my opinion doesn't count etc etc then "they" win. If we say that we are not prepared to put up with it, my opinion is as good as anyone else's etc etc then we can influence the future. Maybe not in a big way but we often have significant effects - eg, suffragettes, the poll tax etc. I am sure you are not as defeatist as your comments make out. I spent my working career telling students that anything was possible for them if they put their minds to it - I'm not going to change now!

As for cheap mortgages - that is alright if you are already on the ladder but I know several people who are either in negative equity and trapped or who are first-time buyers and cannot afford to raise the enormous deposits required these days.

And take it from me, not everybody who has been out of work long-term is a lazy slob!

I remain convinced that the prospects for future generations are nowhere near as rosy as they were for us.

i,m certainly not a defeatist. but like i say we can influence the future not change it. it asnt happened yet so what do we change. as for negative equity .either bought at the wrong time or borrowed again, very common.but the youth will come through it . its only a recent thing for home ownership. as it ever been easy to buy a house .24 yrs ago i struggled to borrow 17 grand to buy this place .i had 8 grand saved . but wages were low and i was self employed . you can still do what you want ,its just what you want to do may not be what others want.(employment wise). multi skilling is whats required .i always tell the young and old if a human being does it so can i. some might do it better some alot worse.
me, trained army chef.butcher slaughterman.then truck driver .tyre fitter, garage proprietor. mechanic ,paint sprayer ,labourer, and a few more as well. just earn what you can when you can.have travelled to many places buying selling and earning money.have a 32 yr old son doing it now, just show him once and away he goes.
yesterday is too late tomorrow may not happen, do it today. personal responsibility is the key. unfortunately many think the world owes them a living.visit other countries then they would know just how good life here is. life is hard always as been. i left school at 15yrs 2 weeks and never took any exams even failed 11+. half my friends still have trouble reading and writing but we all know how to earn a crust.
