A campervan driver became stranded when he attempted to cross a causeway at high tide.

The man had to be rescued when the van became submerged on the Holy Island road, which is underwater twice a day.

He managed to escape and reach a refuge box. It is thought he did not realise it was unsafe to cross because he spoke little English.

Ian Clayton, from Seahouses RNLI, said: "We suspect that language problems may have contributed to this incident."

Strange looking Camper Van looks more like a Horse Box .. One of the other pictures shows bars at the windows

That happens a lot on the Holy Island crossing, at least he had an excuse in not being British, therefore possible language difficulty?

Lots of British born & bred get caught out regularly too (because they're maybe illiterate & a bit dim? ;) )

It can be an incredibly dangerous crossing if you don't follow the rules. It's a wonder the 'elf & safety brigade haven't put an automatic barrier at either end of the causeway to stop people crossing once the returning tide reaches a certain height, but amazingly there have never been any fatalities in over 60 years, so they've never had to!

:D

BBC reckon it was a horsebox. No mention whether there was a horse in it, hopefully not.
An old work colleague of mine got caught out a few years ago. He made it across with water in the foot wells the idiot.
He now runs a boat manufacturing factory on Tyneside lol.

There is no mention of a campervan on the BBC. Its just more wrong faceache news.

Who made it

Was it made by Swift, you know how bad they are for leaks..................

Pferdesport

Something to do with horses .. They will probably need them to pull it back to the Ferry ..

They must have started off driving through the water. You would have thought common sense would have kicked in somewhere. Insurance Company are not going to be very happy with that.

Marie they had to put barriers up at Stanhope at the Ford because of people thinking they could cross when the Ford was in flood and they had to get the helicopter out to rescue them, now the barriers are there full time as far as I know
