Folks a while back someone mentioned a co that can make a new double skin window if they have the old pattern unit,im asking cos a twit in a coal truck damaged mine and ins co want me to get a quote for replacement plus some panel damage of which i will sort myself.
I have tried here in n.ireland but most wont touch a self conversion repair or if they did not sell it there not interested,apart from the fact all gave me a blank look with regards to window.
 
Found this Trev another member posted not far from me if I can help eco auto windows.01274679524,,yorkshire I think..you will have to send damaged window to them which they will copy

Hi, I used this company in Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow, 00353 87 2679366. He duplicated two double glassed windows from old Hymer for me.

Thanks i called them,six week leed time as glass colour has to be brought from sweeden.
Cost 300 euro.

Just of blower ,cost £265 plus £50 return postage then cost to me to send out,the cost also has vat on top.:scared:

Trev, you might be better off googling for the companies that convert vehicles for other purposes. They might put you on to a new replacement of the same kind. Looking at the prices put forward so far, the cost might be about the same for a new one.

Hi, have you considered that it might be cheaper option to replace the complete window frame and glass. Measure the ope note wheather square or curved corners and try the recycle yards, I have got parts from East Coast Campers, Arklow, 0402-37569. Perhaps even make paper template before final purchase.

The compleat unit is over £600 and im not pulling it out to reseal even though they scraped the fram very slightly.
Thanks for the replys i have been on blower and to ins co but its taking time to get there ins as police want £100 th release details to my ins co which is aib but they put it all through claims@coplus .co.uk and they dont seem to think they have to pay police which they do have to in n/ireland.
 
that's roughly what i was quoted Trev for a one-off copy of my current cracked window. i could not see how i could drive around for 6 weeks with a sheet of plastic taped over the rear window. But now i have moved its a whole safer if i choose to do that next autumn.

Why do the police have to get paid? What is their involvement? Sounds like an government-sanctioned scam to me!

They get the details of other chaps ins and charge for it to you ins co,two reisons is first police service require money as they get involved in ins fights etc,second is in n/ireland if folk found out there address and details they may well go round and issue out irish punishment to offender,so police will not hand over to me to forward.
 
Oh right.
So in a car accident, unlike in GB where the two parties just exchange details, in NI you don't (and in fact refuse?) to do that and pass info over to police instead then?

The only thing you are required to do if no one hurt is exchange details,a ph number or address ,most give a ph number and car reg,from here its up to the ins co to sort out.
The police will not come out if no one hurt,if involved in a acc here and you suspect other party is going to do a runner just ph police a say you hurt your hand etc when involved in a collision then plod will get all details.
Once you say that your hurt the other party cannot leave the scene .

Here was the side window before the coal truck wing mirror contacted it causing scrapes and a crack.
