ever considered using that silly thing to fix it that most people seem to have? i.e. Insurance?

Yes considerd it my excess is £350, on top of that the premiums will probably be loaded for a number of years, don't think it's much damage and something that I could do myself for a fraction of the cost of claiming so a no brainer,.

Hi guys a bit of advice needed please, dementia has kicked in again despite reversing sensors & a very good reversing camera I've pranged the van, as age creeps up I've found my concentration is creeping down, I don't think it's too bad and am going to have a go at repairing it myself.
My plan is to clean the underside snap the crack together then apply epoxy resin to the underside crack covering it with a about an inch wide resin, when set I will drill a hole at the end of the crack face to stop it spreading, then dremill the face side crack out a bit and fill with gel coat, when set sand down the gel coat crack flush then spray with a paint match.
What do you guys think ? Is this about right or is there a better way.
Any advice would be appreciated.

That actually sounds like a solid plan Cleaning, stopping the crack from spreading, and using epoxy + gel coat is the right approach for a DIY repair. Just make sure the area is bone dry and well-prepped before applying anything, otherwise it won’t bond properly. If you can, reinforce the underside with a bit of fiberglass cloth and resin too – adds strength and helps prevent future splitting. Take your time sanding and blending the gel coat, and it should come up looking tidy.
