Curtain Rail

I wanted a curtain behind the front seats in my Berlingo. I already had a suitable piece of material, but how to hang and fix it was the question.

I found some tension rods for lightweight curtains. They screw out to a smidgin (technical term) more than needed and have a slight spring to compress them in to the space wanted.

However, they were likely to slip on the car trim. The idea of a cup screwed into the plastic trim seems the best idea. Of course, those of the right depth were too wide and those the right width too deep.

I bought some rubber cups intended for chair feet and cut them down, put a self tapping screw through the base and screwed them into the trip.

Job done.

If I'd given it a bit more thought, I'd have asked the seamstress to shape the edge to fit round the trim and leave a smaller gap. But, that's my lack of forethought.

Moan ...

Back in the day when we had shops that were mainly builders suppliers, if we wanted only a couple of screws or whatever, we could buy what we wanted. Now, in these modern specialist "DIY" warehouses we have to buy packets of screws and are left with many more than used. What happened to economy and sustainability?

No, even the biggest B&Q only do packs, if you want two you have to buy twenty. It's fine if they're a useful size but bad if it's a one off job. Tend to order mine through Ebay now as even with postage it works out much cheaper and you always get the exact size and amount.

Pop into most Wilkinsons supermarket s and they do assorted screws, nuts and bolts of any size and large repair washers you can mix whatever you buy two sizes of zip lock bags fill them as you will but the zip must close prices start at £2.99 just call and start a good selection for your tool kit

Try an expanding Rail

We use a very cheap expanding (Spring inside) rail.
We then use 3 or 4 strong Peg-type clips. to hang a picnic rug.
The outside is striped but the inside is the black waterproof side.
It hangs between the cab area and the habitation area
We find this easier than the silver screens (x3 1 Front and 2 sides)

As with most solutions "Heath Robinson Lives On"

I've just done the same job with a £5 expanding pole from Wilco.
Rattles a bit though...

I have press studs on the underside of my over-cab-bed-upholstery cushions and the hab/cab separating curtain has the other half of the press studs on it and so I simply press two studs together to attach the curtain. I leave it there all the time. I pull it down at night, and tuck it up on the bed in the day. Its quick and easy to pull down when leaving the van also .. prevents nosey parkers peering in.
