The local community has started a crowdfunding initiative to provide sanitary facilities on the Road to the Isles, see the link below. Here’s a chance to put your money where your mouth is. I hope more local communities will cotton on to this idea.

I think this as already been posted as some of us have already donated ...........

I have received this from the Road to the Isles Community Group regarding alternative ways of donating.

Dear Ian,

Thanks for your email below. We are delighted with the support that we are receiving, and understand that people might not want to pay the fees associated with the Go Fund Me page.
We would be happy for people to either send a cheque - payable to Road to the Isles Facilities Group SCIO, and posted to Road to the Isles Facilities Group SCIO, Mallaig and Morar Community Centre, West Bay, Mallaig, PH41 4PX, or people can make a direct transfer into our bank account.
If they email this address then we can send on the bank details to them (this will allow us to be able to thank them all for their donation, and to keep track of the donations).

Thanks again for your interest.

Jacqueline

Thats great, thanks Ian. Cheque will be in the post today.

I would like to think that these sorts of initiatives could, and should, be copied by many other communities in these popular but stressed locations on the NC500 route.
We would all benefit in the long run.

I received an update today.

It's been a good day today! We have the completion certificate so have opened the Traigh toilets, we've reached £3,000 of donations, and we have finally got everything lined up to be able to sign the contract for the Mallaig building. Time is tight, as the funding has to be spent by the end of December, but we have been working with Healthmatic, who will provide the modular building, in the background, so we are confident we can do it! This building will contain public toilets, a shower, a disabled toilet with separate entrance, and an elsan point (for chemical waste) and fresh water supply for campervans etc. There's a sneak preview from the plans below!

Also
£3,139 raised of £3,500 goal Plans incluse Elson disposal.

Anyone who has not donated PLEASE consider...a tenner is enough. (or even £5) ..I have just made my second donation as I see the funds are being used "as advertised"

The completion of this is great news. Maybe this should be touted round other councils, perhaps crowdfunding is the way forward in getting things changed.

As the saying goes "Money talks".

Yes very good The longer term management and regular funding need to be considered.
eg pay by phone £1 or £2 per use This could also build up to fund repairs and eventual replacement/refurbishment.
Indeed daily maintenance/cleaning as well 1
