Crail

I have been going there since beg June at weekends yes there is travellers there but they have never bothered us in fact the ones we spoke to are very friendly they were collecting buckles in the rocks

What are buckles in this context please? Or are they silver shoe buckles lost by the followers of the Young Pretender? :)

Unfortunately it has been misspelled and should have been buckies, a local description for winkles

I wondered about Buckles too, but thought you might have meant Buckies which, incidently, is the name given to Common Whelks pretty much everywhere else.
So called after their Latin name Buccinum undatum.

Why eat a whelk? That is so short-sighted.

Get some whelks, shell them and slide them on to some stiff wire bent in a circle. Tie a piece of string on, walk out as far as you can on the rocks and dangle it in the sea.

Hopefully you will get a nibble from a Crab, gently ease it out of the sea and on to the rocks. Job done.

Buckles lol

I was at crail this weekend and the place was lovely the travellers were still there but still no hassle from them we did here they were getting moved on but I don't see what harm they are doing collecting buckies and not living off the government
