We needed a night out this weekend so we thought we would recce CR Brun Clough Reservoir (one of the WC POIs) Saturday and Sunday.
We were lucky with the weather so we drove into Diggle to investigate the canal and railway tunnel that goes through the hill.
The car park was a bit on the small side so we had to park with 2m of the back end of the 'van sticking into the trees, but it worked (as per the pic), then walk to the end of the car park, all of 15m to see where the canal disappears into the ground. A bit further up the road and from a view point on a bridge the railway can also be seen to disappear into the ground via a tunnel. Not much else to see in Diggle, so we drove into Uppermill, found a parking space on the road, and walked the short way into the town center for some food and a drink.
Afterwards we took the van to Brun Clough Reservoir and settled down for a quiet night.
Woke up in the morning to glorious sunshine, a breakfast and a really long walk along the Penine Way, in a big circle to the camp site behind the pub on the A62. After a drink there we went back to the 'van and back home.
Altogether a jolly good weekend away with exercise.
