Cover for Motorhome

I have recently seen covers for Motorhomes advertised in some magazines at relatively cheap prices (£100 approx) and I just wonder if any members use them or have any thoughts on them.

I will be using my 'van next week but will probably not use it again until late February and whilst I may be able to arrange indoor storage for it I just thought that perhaps if I bought a cover i could leave it in my driveway.

I look forward to your thoughts on it

we have one of the cheap covers,it looks the same inside as the dearer ones and its now two years old,the only problems we have had is the plastic clips break but I tied some of the plastic curtain rings(2")on and its ok now

I'm interested in this as well for 2 reasons, general protection and I want to strip/repair the back panel this winter to cure a leak at the back window so would also be useful while doing this...

I had a caravan cover. It worked, but when they blow in the wind they rub your paint off. You need to wash your van before putting it on, to get rid of the grit which will cause more problems.

Slightly different, but I have used both cheap and expensive covers on my scooter/motorbike when outside and condensation was a problem. But didn't notice any in my caravan.

That said, we had had reseal and placed the cover on the caravan after it was done. After months of use we took it to a dealer to part-ex against our first motorhome and found part of the van had damp. I don't know if the cover assisted in its development or covered it up.

this is just my experience.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my query. Will I buy one or not? i am not sure and i will need to think about it for a while.

Again many thanks for the comments

I was ging to buy a cover then decided not too
reason your van has seals to jion the panels and with temperature
changes these move. So i was told:)

I also think if they need covering you would see loads of people doing it
A car port type covering would be best so you would get a daft
going round the van. The other thing I do is close all the blinds
cover the windows with silver sceens. Inside open all the cuboards
and put salt bowls inside.

Just my thoughts all the best :D:D

Thanks Cipro, I have not decided whether I will get one or not yet though I am minded not to on the basis of the advice I have received on this forum. I am going to the NEC next week to the exhibition so there may be some on display there. Your point about not many owners having them is very valid. I will keep you posted.

We bought a very nice cover for our caravan, we used it once! It was a b*gger to fit especially if it was windy, unless you have to park up under trees and are going to get covered in sap and bird poo I really wouldn't bother! Or if your pride & joy leaks! Otherwise as others have said there could be problems with damp and the cover rubbing, plus it makes it difficult to get in and charge batteries, removed stuff etc - We sold our cover as 'Used once' on ebay for just £10 less than we paid for it, so not a bad lesson learnt!

I'm not convinced a cover isn't a good idea, we would rather have our car's in a garage given the choice, I know a cover isn't the same but it's a simple fact things last longer if they are kept dry...

but to obvious fact of trying to cover, in our case, something which is 7.5m long and well over 3m high even on a calm day is not going to be easy.

think a carport is the way forward ;)
