Thought that this may be of interest to anyone contemplating visiting Cornwall.

The Official...John Betty

Appears to have the wrong "Job Title"

Not only wrong but also an extremely pompous longwinded title
Perhaps.....

Director of
Irrelevant
Confusing
Tedious
And
Terribly
Officious
Responsibility

Would be better !

I have been intending to see more of this country, rather than going over to France etc, so can cross Cornwall off my list of destinations.

The irony is that at some times (Easter and Summer School Holidays) it's impossible to get a campsite pitch in Cornwall and it's often difficult between those times, leaving wild camping or pub stops as the best option. Many of those car parks are almost empty overnight, and so make ideal "late arrival/early depature" wild camps. Methinks it's time to have a go at my local County Councillor :mad2:

well look at where admin is on a aire in england that cold be done lot of surfers at newquay beaches

The CCC run many temporary Holiday sites in Cornwall and Devon, all in great locations so all is no lost.

I love Wild camping and do it where I can. but we have to realise that we are unwelcome in many parts of the UK, our own fault generally. we [ as a group ] spend little money in local shops and eating places as we generally stock up in Supermarkets buy our fuel at cheaper outlets , eat our own food in our vans , take up a lot of space in parking places often overstaying our welcome and using the facilities such as toilets rubbish bins and water taps where available all paid for by local people, and we cringe when asked to pay a small amount of money for parking , contrary to general opinion we put little money into the local economy , doing things as cheaply as we can.So is it any wonder that Wilding is becoming harder, It is also getting harder to do in Spain and Portugal for the same reasons so we have to get more inland away from the beaches where we all want to be, yes we would all like more Aire type parking places in the UK but that will come at a cost to us as there is no such thing as a free meal.:anyone:

I can't understand why anyone would want to overnight in a car park in the middle of a town. The POI's have thousands of quiet, out of the way places to park. The only car park I enjoy using is Appledore, mainly because the Council encourage overnight parking in a car park right by the waters edge.

A lot of these are run by councillors or their familys
NO they are not, they are run by members for members all unpaid but some stewards do get free camping for their term of stewarding, it is open to all members who want to Steward ie , give up their time and have the hassle of the public for the duration of their stewarding period.

It says that you should pay by mobile phone, I would like to know how that works except for those with accounts, I am like very many do not have and account but a PAYG phone. They cannot be used. In London I think that the only option is pay be phone?????????

none of this is recent. i went there over 30 yrs ago with my kids and was treated like crap from the start ,first place we stopped was st michaels mount where 3 very aggressive locals tried to charge me for staying the night, and we'd just arrived. we didn't stay , everywhere was run down ,misrepresented [ the brochure for land's end was an amazing lie !the place was so awful i couldn't stop laughing ,even though the entrance fee was pretty high] and we were overcharged , i was glad to see the back of the place and i still tell people , don't go , just send them money, that'll make everyone happy
and i've had better pasties in Bristol , where they actually care about their punters, instead of sneerin at the emmets

are you sure?

a quick - by no means exhaustive perusal of the CCC magazine doesnt seem to confirm that to be the case.

THS in Cornwall include (but arent limited to) -

Hendra Holiday park Newquay
Porth Beach touring park Newquay
Churchtown farm Hayle
the rugby club St Ives
Trevornick Holiday Park Newquay
Watergate Bay Newquay
the rugby club St Austell
Home farm camping Marazion

fairly obviously at least some of those locations arent owned by local councillors!

I dont use THS - they arent 'my thing' but they are often nearly as cheap as parking in a crummy town center carpark with less chance of being disturbed by locals racing their tractors and engaging in post cider revelry !

the above are being charged at £13-£15 including EHU - some of the aforementioned carparks are £10 (with no EHU)

Your quite right.

You can't blame local residents, if people steal water, dump rubbish, take over parking places, leave rubbish, run generators, wood burn stoves and empty their toilet on the floor.

Exactly different members are looking for different things. THS are not for everyone as you have proved. Same as some folk here love attending meets others perhaps the idea filled with horror

Diversity within our ranks

NO they are not, .

This isn't the first time this has been aired on here 2 years ago I emailed every Cornwall Councillor suggesting they allowed over nighting in their carparks many that answered where influenced by having family members or friends who run campsites. Only 3 agreed it would be a good idea and may raise extra revenue for the council
