my friend has just bought his first campervan , a convertion. he now finds that he cann't get insurance as he doesn't have a "convertion certificate". i was no help to him but said i would ask you lot.

Conversion....

Is it a home conversion or a professional conversion?

When we converted out first camper (home conversion) our insurance company requested one of these and we had no idea what they were or how we'd get one but upon checking further with our insurance company they deemed that having a CORGI registered gas fitter check out the gas plumbing was up to spec would suffice ... Costs though!

Hi. My campervan is a self built Iveco 35/10 and I had no trouble in getting quotes from several reputable insurance companies without them needing a conversion cert, (though some asked for photos of the vehicle). For me the best was 'Adrian Flux' who seem to specialise in self build vans, kit cars and unusal vehicles. you can find them through a Google search
Cheers, Kell

we are with adrian flux and had no probs ,they were the cheapest too

Both My vans are with Flux and one is classed as a self conversion and the other is classed ad a kit car and had no problems with any

We're with Adrian Flux too - home built conversion on a Transit base vehicle. They didn't want any certificates, just photos if we wanted to have an agreed value. They were the cheapest too.

I went to Flux first of all for insurance for my trialler - Land Rover based, space frame, V8 motor, road legal (just). They seem to know what people get up to and don't ask the silly questions that some do. Agreed value, fully comp, limited mileage, £120 a year! I was flabbergasted.

Highly recommended.

yes, try adrian flux, they will insure a home conversion with out certificates, i use them to

I.ve been asked for an engineerrs>report which involved taking it to a garage which dealt in bodywork. We just had a general report on the body condition and the conversion work done.

thanks

thanks for all the replies looks like adrian will be getting some more custom

re sending back forms

we have had no trouble, when you apply online it does not say that there will be forms sent to you and we did over look them. i thought it was the policy and did,nt look properly they wrote to remind me that i had not sent the forms back. i did this and have never had a problem since it was my own fault for not reading the stuff in the envelope .

Adien flux wouldnt insure me because Im in entertainment, ive ended up paying £1500 a year for a home conversion worth £3000 a year, admitedly fully comp but that was the cheapest i could find.
