THE VALENCIA regional law for campsites and campervans is to be changed to enable councils to build or permit specific parking areas for campervans.
It will also allow them to elaborate their own bylaws to regulate parking of motorhomes.

This could mean that INSTRUCTION 08/V-74 FROM THE SPANISH DIRECTOR GENERAL OF TRAFFIC RELATIVE TO MOTORHOMES issued by the MINISTRY OF INTERIOR could be no longer applied.

John. In simple terms what does that mean for us please?

At present it is lawful to park and occupy a vehicle in car parks or by the roadside. Providing official parking places in limited locations could mean that that occupation could become unlawful. Valencia is one of Spain's regions that are pushing for independence from Spain, so national regulations would no longer apply.

Just a heads up for those intending to visit Spain.

Precisely the reason I've mentioned on other similar threads regarding this issue that those who would petition for Local Authorities to provide Aires in the UK should think twice. Because once the Aires are provided you can bet your bottom dollar that will be the default place you will have to go and occupy, ie no more wilding.

The problem here has been the abuse made by motorhomers who, because of their own wants, have stayed on coastal areas for weeks, if not months, and have dumped their waste (of all kinds) in the surrounding areas. The authorities have no choice but to stop these actions. They are looking at putting in place areas for motorhomers to park. Some people will obviously not be happy with these options and will look at freeloading elsewhere.

my experience of 5yrs wilding it all over Spain,Portugal & France is that July & August yes, the Police/authorities may choose to abide by some of these numerous and ever changing laws and directives. the rest of the time nobody gives a toss unless you are downright cheeky, disrespectful and lacking common sense.

I'd definitely argue the point that "nobody gives a toss" even out of season. With ever increasing numbers of wild/free camping motorhomers there's a corresponding increasing chance these days of coming across the toss givers, whether it be complaining locals, expats, or leaned on cops with perhaps not enough to do.

Although you and I might not be cheeky, disrespectful, or lacking common sense, there's a fair chance someone else qualifies for at least one of these characteristics. And with not much chance of discrimination, we get just lumped in with them unfortunately.

all i can say is four years ago the maroc tourist board reckoned 40.000 m,homes crossed to maroc between november and april . just about all passed through spain . plus even so spain on the med coast was full all winter. portugal full. well at least on the coast.
