Anyone been having windows security centre pop ups when booting up computer saying that your present anti-virus software is now out of date and warning that your computer is under attack from trojan virus and the like. Also had one screen appear with Microsoft renewal latest anti-virus software for the price of $46 warning if you close this page you will lose your discount, flaming cheek just because you bought their product once doesn't give them the right to what amounts to infecting your computer with advertising.RANT OVER.How can i get rid of these pop ups any one help. Thanks ,Andy.

AVG the free version works for me.

And me - also use Zone Alarm Free for a fire wall

Remember, Bill Gates is the Spawn of the Anti Christ - If you add his name up in ASC11 code it comes to 666...

PC protection

Had lots of problems with AVG on my Vista laptop ever since it changed to version 8 (which is not Windows 98 compatable by the way for those still using '98). Changed to Avira Antivir Personal and it's free (and compatable with Win98).

I don't trust Zone Alarm any more since I heard of issues with privacy. I use Comodo but some of the settings can be tedious and need turning down but is probably the best free firewall at the moment.

Also use Spybot Search & Destroy.

I too had problems running AVG on my new laptop, with vista installed. I found that uninstalling it, and replacing it with Avast has worked a treat. Like AVG it is totally free and updates as and when I want. Highly recommended. I also use Spybot which I run manually on a daily basis.

Thanks for all the advice just downloaded the avg 8 so will give it a try, sorry forgot to say i am using windows xp don't know if there are vista users are experiencing similar problems.Counting the pennies to see if i can afford a new computer may be next month:(

Deep joy and frustration - turns out that Beelzebub's understudy has been fiddling again. So if you have Zone Alarm and you can't get onto the www that's the reason why

Thought he had retired better dust off the long spoon, thanks Baloo;)

we had this recomendation from admin recently

may be it is worth trying

I use Panda Internet security as does just about everybody I know.
I have used it for years now with no problems.

And.....

If you buy it from Panda Direct it will cost £42.99!
If you buy a OEM copy from ebuyer it will cost £5.99..... yes I did say £5.99!

you have a virus mate ignore it down load avg and it will get rid of it , its called ad ware shows adverts for crap , wont harm your computer just slow it down alot

you could do with the free version of spyware doctor it will surprise you whats on your computer without you knowing

i use avg and spyware doctor

SpyBot is also a goody for the problems that you describe CLICKY

AVG is a terrific package and its for FREE :D my favourite word followed closely by CASH.

If you haven't got a Firewall running then you should have: may I suggest Zone Alarm Free? LINKY
If you're not too experienced, it pays to read the little tutorial that these companies give with their products
With those 3 on board you should be quite safe
btw - your new laptop will come with Microsoft Vista and I cannot get on with that at all

just had a quick look through posts, as for vista not worth the money(i used to work at maplins and they still run windows 98 ) if you want to change from x.p!!!!! cannot see the reason apart from all new computers now have it thanks to poor old bill gates . as for avg 8 its very good always had avg its free and the best about. avg 8 now shows whether it is safe to go on a site before you even attempt to enter it. (it says wildcamping is safe ) obviously it cannot prevent you from becoming totalay addicted to the best site about :D:D spy bot works for spy ware as good as anything about .

and one the largest public accountancy firm in the UK still uses Windoze 95; wonder if that's got anything to do with the current world financial crises? :D

no basically it was a good system, but as for everything!! lets mend it till its broken then everybody will have to get a new system . or lets make something that looks better so the people that think they have something a bit better, th an the next man brag about it untill they realise how they have been duped stick with xp, unless you want a new computer that is no better than the one you have a update is cheaper than new

What it really means is that Billy Baby can get into your wallet and make you buy newerand more powerful PCs. The you'll need better and more powerful software... You know the rest
