Computer Connection Advice - How do you do it?

Hi,

Am planning a trip around the coast of the UK starting soon and I would like to use my laptop for navigation and communication. We are hoping to use a mix of commercial, club, and wild sites, booking where required as we go. I went to buy a PAYG dongle only to find that any credit added lasts for a month and if not used is lost. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive way around this issue.

Thanks in anticipation of your help.

not an expert on this myself but, i think some places may have free Wi fi? Firefox is the expert in this field, he is away this weekend but will be along to help you, also Phil, admin is a bit of a whizz kid too, i looked at o2, i think it was £10 a month but if you go over you will get stung, i'm not been much help am i? lol,

We have a Vodafone dongle. Chose it after looking round and being underwhelmed by the fact that with all the others the credit expired after 1 month (bloody cheek).

If you go for a dongle, also purchase a USB extension lead so that you can position the dongle on a window ledge or outside the van, to ensure the best signal.

Alternatively, there are plenty of mobile phones around now that let you connect to the interweb and pick up your emails.

my pay and go Dongle on 3 gives me 3 gig for a Month, I just top it up as and when and I can let it die for up to a year and just enliven it with a top up , £10 £15 or £25 depending on how much Giggly I want, I don't have a land line so the Dongle is my only means of connection or free hot spots, works for me.

I have T mobile broadband dongle and it cost me £12 a month then I cancelled after 12months looking for cheaper options, when I cancelled they said I could have the same service for just £5 per month so I stayed with T mobile (who wouldnt ?)

i use unlocked dongle and am with 3 sim card costs approx 12 pound and lasts 90 days or sooner for 3gb depending on use before 90 days buy off ebay been using about a year very good reception cheers john:)

If you have a pay monthly contract you can add data to the contract for a small cost per month normally about £5 for 500mb, you can then tether (connect) you mobile to your computer this can be done via wire or bluetooth, this will allow you to download / send emails and also surf the web. Only do this in the UK Data charges whilst abroad are very expensive.

Hope this helps Phil L

Hi
don't know if it would work? but thought about trying but don't want to ruin my sim.

here's my idea, has anyone tried it, or do you think it may work.

i am with giff gaff, and they charge I think 20p a day on the internet (providing you don't go mad) in which case it 40p, could i put this sim in an 02 dongle and just connect through giff gaff? if so could just take out of phone to use and put back in again when finished.

what yer fink????
