Common land

Hi

On a recent trip to the Yorkshire Dales I picked up a leaflet about common land printed by DEFRA. And this cleared up. for me, what common land is and it is for the locals only to graze their livestock. Powered vehicles are not allowed in any form. Most common land seems to be in the hills anyhow and useless to motorhomes obviously.

Legaly there is no such thing as Common Land. In 1773 the Crown aquired all Common Land. This land is now under the jusidiction of the local councills. Various bye-laws have been passed restricting, Gypsies, squating & ownership, fly-tipping etc.
