Last night was the coldest of the winter so far, didn’t fancy draining the pipes & tank as I’m using van at weekend.

I took a chance, found an old down duvet & tucked it up round the tank & pipes, left a heater in van & this morning although the van was covered in ice, the waterworks were OK.

Blimey, I think you took a risk, Mike! Glad it paid off.

Um, wouldn't tucking a duvet round the pipes prevent the heat from the heater reaching them, thus rendering it pointless putting a heater on?

I have seen similar on gas bottles !!! then folk wonder why they don't work |!

Channa

It takes me no longer than 2 minutes to open fresh water tank drain, Truma boiler drain then open the taps. Much quicker than duvets around the pipes and boiler but each to their own.
As it happens I do this every time I return from a trip regardless of the time of year as I don’t like the idea of water standing in the tanks and boiler more than a day or day. Probably being paranoid but suits me.

It happens to be an under slung tank & therefore at the mercy of the elements.

Auto-Sleepers in their wisdom decided to fit a crap plastic drain tap to the fresh water tank, the handle of which broke off years ago, to replace it means removing the tank as the back nut is inside, I couldn’t be arsed.

The Trauma (intentional misspelling) boiler, I don’t drain it, just turn it on for an hour at night & the water’s still hot in the morning.
