The walk from Lochranza to Laggan cottage and then back over the hills back to Lochranza is my favourite Arran Walk. It has just about everything, stunning views, rocks, coastal path, hill walking, and deer aplenty on the hills. The deer could be heard rutting, and we saw a sea eagle.

Feels weird seeing those photos as we know it so well and not been this year. I guess you can't be everywhere. Michelle is keen to go for Christmas and New Year. We used to often do that in self catering or hotels before we had the motorhome and had some great times. I can't say Im too excited about taking the van though.

It is part of the 6th and 7th Kingdom of Dal Riata and my ancestors were the Kings. One of them gifted a small island called Iona to an Irish Monk named Columba. The rest is history.

Done it lots of times. Lake district, Flamborough, South West (Devon and Cornwall) in the van. Never done Scotland in the van for Christmas and New Year though. One of the best ones was Isle of Wight for a week then Devon and Cornwall for a month. Long time ago. I didn't mind going out on the scooter in snow and ice back then :D Also done the Canary islands a few times. Guess which one I would prefer to do now? :D

Sounds like a great place to spend Christmas and new year Barry. But the weather can make all the difference. We have had six dry if dull days, been able to get out, but right now it’s raining heavy and we’re stuck in the van in north Sannox. Also the ferries are not back to normal, both our outward and return journeys have been altered at short notice. We were supposed to be travelling outbound on the new ferry from Troon on Monday but two days before departure it was changed to the old ferry from Ardrossan. But yesterday’s walk was magic.

Always a gamble. Been great down the south west as well from September up until today. The weather has most definitely turned.

I remember one Christmas on Arran having warm(ish) sunshine and actual midges. :D I also remember storm force 10 winds and a three day blackout on other occasions. White Christmas once in Lochranza though which was stunning and very rare. Funniest one was we spent Christmas in Tenerife and then a week in High Corrie for New Year. The road up to high Corrie was a skating rink so we had to abandon the car at the bottom of the hill and drag all our cases up the ice. Well I did. We couldnt get up in the car for about three or four days. My knees worked then though.
